hehe... it's a good day in the editorial dept of my paper today... in RED TX
some snippets from lttes in my paper today (I told you the editor was fair)

http://www.thedailylight.com/opinion/

-snip-
on npr
"In the wake of recent press releases on the federal defunding of NPR, one has to wonder why the action was even warranted. With the federal funding being only 1.5 percent of the budget of this essential service to those whose only intellegent, well presented and the most centrist of all broadcast sources, is this just another publicity stunt by the fringe conservatives?"

"Will NPR survive? Certainly in areas where the listeners by shear volume will be able to support it by donations. But in areas where its effect and importance are most needed, those listeners who cannot send money needed for bread, clothing and survival will be left in the cold, biased fields of disinformation supplied by those whose interests serve only themselves in selfish squander. We can only blame ourselves for electing those influenced by the same."

-snip
on Republicans

"Did the Republicans pull a fast one? I think that is the question we all have to ask ourselves. We got the promise of jobs and a better economy and nothing has changed. When can I see improvements? The Tea Party wants to put their names on everything and speak how they did so much on getting the Republicans into office. Why are they not raising cane that the R’s are not moving forward? Barry has been in office for 2 years and he was expected to have everything solved by now. Come on, really?

If the D’s and R’s would just work together instead of fighting against each other the U.S. would be a better place. Seems that the R’s are acting like the D’s and I find it amusing. I thought the R’s were supposed to be the one with values and the holier than thou attitude. I thought the D’s were thugs or just do what you have to do to get the job done. Sounds to me you add them together and that is what we need. Someone with values that will get the job done.

Maybe I am not looking in the right place, because I can’t find any. I know I am in Texas and we know the R’s run strong here. So strong if you read the papers you see nothing written by a D. I am not any of them. I vote for who has the best views and at times I am an R and times I am a D. When I am a D though it is hard in Texas, so hard you will be lucky to read this."

5. I think one reason that a conservative paper might support NPR is because
They are far from liberal. In fact, based on how they handled the Bush/Kerry election of 2004, I stopped listening to NPR. (Okay, I admit if I am in a metro area when All Things Considered and Car Guys is on, I do listen.

Th another thing is, true fiscally conservative Republicans understand that NPR does deliver a lot of audio service for not that much money.

But I find it hard to cry over them. The people who are running intelligent shows on NPR could probably get picked up by Sirius or other new radio stations, and maybe even paid more than they are now. And some of the non intelligent shows would do okay on FOX.
