4. Heroes. Thank you for your service.
We should put a ribbon on our cars or some shit.

Fuck them, but more importantly, fuck the administrations who put them there and keep them there.

6. Did they kill a child?
I have been looking for the age of the boy in the image and cannot find one. One article did say he is the son of a farmer as if he was not yet an adult himself.

x(

Sickening beyond belief.

11. You cannot really tell. At least adolescent.
We may never know. It seems inevitable that child killing photos emerge at some point.

5. War does horrible things to people
Both the victims and the survivors. It has always been thus:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes

To determine the treatment of frostbite, prisoners were taken outside in freezing weather and left with exposed arms, periodically drenched with water until frozen solid. The arm was later amputated; the doctor would repeat the process on the victim's upper arm to the shoulder. After both arms were gone, the doctors moved on to the legs until only a head and torso remained. The victim was then used for plague and pathogens experiments.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_mutilation_of_Japanese_war_dead

During World War II, some United States military personnel mutilated dead Japanese service personnel in the Pacific theater of operations. The mutilation of Japanese service personnel included the taking of body parts as “war souvenirs” and “war trophies”. Teeth and skulls were the most commonly taken "trophies", although other body parts were also collected.

7. No endorsement here, but
Imagine if you were ordered by our government to go to a country that you've barely even heard of, let alone consider an aggressor. You're there, stranger in a strange land, doing your job. The only problem is that your comrades in arms, some of the most trusting and personal relationships you've ever experienced, keep getting blown up or shot. How is one supposed to feel after being able to revisit this upon the supposed enemy? There are no morals where men are reduced to the human instinct to survive. There are no morals when the only thing keeping those men from returning to their homes and families is another man.

So while it's easy for us to view these photos from the comfort of our homes and offices, we cannot expect to understand the events that took these men to this place. There are no morals in war.

10. Let's also remember that we have an all-volunteer army.
They weren't "ordered by our government". They asked for the opportunity.

12. For the most part, the choice is easy.
Live in rural or inner city America, with few options for betterment, or volunteer for a few years and get the opportunity. If you believe that the "volunteers" for service only "volunteered" so they could kill people than shame on you. The armed forces of this country are viewed as the only means to a better life by the majority that join. What's wrong with wanting to live the American dream? What's wrong with thinking that serving your country can be that path?

14. As a Vietnam vet, I regard your post reasonable and appropriate.
While there is NO EXCUSE for their behavior, it cannot be understood without experiencing combat ... and the seemingly interminable days upon days of stress in such an environment. It just can't be comprehended "from the cheap seats."

And some too gruesome to post like 'Applying electric shocks over the sensitive parts of an imprisoned Afghan'
