Bolivia's Evo Morales asks that Obama be deprived of Nobel Prize
La Paz - Bolivian President Evo Morales demanded on Monday that the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament deprive US President Barrack Obama of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize after he ordered airstrikes on Libya.

"How can it be that a Nobel Peace Prize laureate leads a group of gangs to attack and invade? That is not part of a defence of human rights or (respect) for the self-determination of peoples," Morales told a press conference.

The Nobel committee surprised the world by giving the 2009 prize to Obama, only a few months after his inauguration. The committee rewarded "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

Morales - the first president of indigenous descent in Bolivia's history - was himself a candidate for the prize that year, for his work in favour of social justice and inclusion in Bolivia.

1. Well, it was absurd to give it to him in the first place with no track record.

12. It's the only prize given based sometimes on potential
the prize is suppose to encourage said recipient into acting a certain way. The people that gave said prize acknowledged at times the award recipient doesn't always follow through with commendable actions. Such is the risk of such a prize. I imagine in the views of the people that gave the prize, it was worth the risk.

31. I don't know if Evo did deserve it.
He'd be in the company of Henry Kissinger. That seems mean to Evo.

4. I can't think of a past nobel peace prize winner that has been engaged in 3 wars at the same time.

6. I actually think a campaign to revoke the prize would be highly effective possibly.
It was embarrassing in a sense that he receive it in the first place. I will vote for Obama, and I will campaign for him next year. But I do believe it's more than reasonable to launch an international appeal that the prize be revoked in light of recent events.

16. Yeah, we can get signatures from all over the world before presenting an international
demand to the Nobel Committee.

A president with 4 wars on his hands deserves no Peace Prize. What a farce. It's sad the deaths seem to mean nothing to you.

10. Obama should never have recieved one
and because of his continued support of the war in Afghanistan never should. In fact he should go down in history as just another in a long line of ignorant war-mongering American presidents.
