3. I heard they cost closer to a million each
Still, the costs of the missles is small compared with the overall operation, fuel, etc.
I'm really unsure how to feel about these events.........

8. And those were made on the spot for this intervention, right?
Of course they will be replaced, but they protect fighter pilots from having to directly take on those kinds of missions.

18. The problem with a zero-sum calculation like that is it assumes a paucity of dollars.
That's incorrect. There is no lack of funding, clearly -- the existence of these missiles is proof of that.

There is merely a lack of political will to spend more on education. Grounding the cruise missile "fleet" as it were would have zero effect on the dearth of political will to spend on education.

12. You assume that there is any valid reason for fighter pilots to go
in there directly. All of that money would be saved if we weren't starting unnecessary wars.

14. +1
i'd rather it not happen at all - but if it is, yes let it be out in the open - let everyone KNOW we are doing this for oil by forcing the oil companies to foot the bill.

11. I wonder about the people who order these missiles fired
Do they appreciate how much they cost? Choose every target wisely and with respect to the mission?

I don't think they do. I think the commanders are a bunch of cowboy yahoos who fly by the seat of their pants.

13. K&R
looks like Libya has been a smashing success - for the military industrial complex that is. What the fuck is wrong with this country and our priorities? We're stripping union rights to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and to bomb yet ANOTHER country? I am very ashamed of our country these days. Very.

I mean its not like we only pay for the missiles AFTER we shot them off.

But if I burn it up, I have to get more and that costs money. As with gasoline, so with missiles.
