Poll question: What Do You Think Should Be Done in Libya?
Support for the attacks was not universal. The Russian government said the mission has killed innocent civilians and urged more caution. The Foreign Ministry in Moscow cited reports that "nonmilitary" targets were being bombed, including a cardiac center. India, China and Venezuela have also spoken out against the airstrikes.
..
..
The Libyan government has said that 48 people, mostly women, children and clerics, have died in allied attacks.

Gadhafi's momentum has been slowed. He has declared a cease-fire. But sporadic aggression by Gadhafi's forces on the ground continues in the west.

What should be done?

9. Something left out of your link quote re: alleged civilian casualties
Edited on Tue Mar-22-11 03:11 AM by Waiting For Everyman
The Libyan government has said that 48 people, mostly women, children and clerics, have died in allied attacks. U.S. Vice Admiral Bill Gortney, however, said there is no indication of any civilian casualties.

France
-- which conducted the first strike in Libya on Saturday when fighter jets fired at a military vehicle -- also disputed claims of civilian deaths.

There's no evidence of any at all in Tripoli caused by the coalition's NFZ. Lots of international journalists are there, asking to see evidence that might exist. It would be quite a juicy story for Gaddafi to provide it, and have every detail and pictures all over the world's news... but nope, he keeps refusing to let the journos see for themselves. Because it's bull. If he had it, he'd up it.

The "casualties" are about as believable as Gaddafi's rant about the rebels being hopped up on drugged Nescafe. Yet the "48 casualties" keeps being reported as if it's a given - I've seen it in several threads here on DU from different sources. At least CNN DID rightly include Gortney's statement. But somehow, your quote did not.
