1. It is not. Neither appropriated or non-appropriated funds go to Fox News
That they have very good accountants is another issue, though tax avoidance is quite legal.

5. I do believe the Government does do advertising on Fox News
I believe the military in particular spends millions of dollars every year advertising on Fox News....

7. They spend a ton on a whole lot of other networks, too
Plenty of "Go Army" ads on MSNBC and CBS and ESPN and pretty much every other network out there.

9. Paying for ad space and directly funding them is different
federal funding for NPR, for instance, doesn't go towards ads.

11. That is not the same as a budget line item
I also should have been more clear in my post.

10. I don't know if the situation has changed, but during GW Bush's

time as president, the Armed Forces Network generally stopped broadcasting news from
the more liberal newscasters in favor of Rush Limbaugh's network.

4. Depends on your definition...
If you use the same definition that the Republicans use for defunding planned parenthood, then yes. The US taxpayer pays for commercial time on Fox which funds the right wing extremist machine.

6. I heard this claim the other day
It's pretty loose and frankly rather irresponsible to claim that they are "federally funded." Just because the feds do business with some entity doesn't make that entity "federally funded." If that were the case, then Avis Rent-A-Car is "federally funded" because sometimes the FBI or whoever will fly into a city and rent a car from them. I think most people would agree that's a pretty absurd definition of "federal funding."

In addition, if FNC is federally funded by this definition, then so is pretty much every other network out there. MSNBC, CNN, TBS, ESPN, ABC, CBS, NBC, SyFy, and a whole host of others also get things like ads from the Army and Marines.
