A great "open mic" moment on MSNBC this morning.
Just after 10:00 am, not sure of the name of the woman who was "debating" Pat Buchanan on the Libya bombings. She was backing Obama's stance. Admittedly, I'm not sure I agreed with her, that Obama had to do what he had to do in the name of expediency and the desperateness of the situation, but she stated her case well. Buchanan, an Iraq/Afghanistan hawk since day one, wanted none of it. Suddenly, strict adherence to the Constitution was the most important thing, and Obama didn't ask for permission.

As the segment ended and the show's host was wrapping it up, our intrepid liberal punching bag managed to squeeze in one final comment: "Maybe he should have just said there was yellow cake." Fade to commercial.

Brilliant!

1. Aw, man. You really gotta put me in the position of defending Pat Buchanan?
The old bastid may be a lot of things, but Iraq war hawk is not one of them.

2. It's nice to see that senile fool put in his place
Although IIRC, buchanan was not a great supporter of the Iraq war and maybe not of Afghanistan either.

He is definitely not a fan of neocons. Probably because he's a bigot and many neocons are Jewish.

I think its time for him to go to the old pundits rest home.

3. Buchanan actually was opposed to the Iraq war
I saw him many times on cable shows at the time speaking against it.

4. Well, apparently I'm wrong about Buchanan. On some level.
He's still a crazy old bigoted douche bag, though. At one point in the "debate" he sternly told his opponent, "Listen here young lady..."

The guy is a worthless POS, IMHO. Maybe he opposed the Iraq war...but if he did, he had ulterior motives that somehow underscored his hatefulness.

7. Um, Does Pat Even Know What The Constitution Says?
The President is allowed to make war on whoever he wants, wherever he wants, whenever he wants, WITHOUT Congressional approval for 30 days. It's called the Commander-In-Chief Clause. You might want to check it out, Pat.

9. I think everyone's missed the point...

THe comment wasn't directed personally at Pat Buchanan, who yes, was against the war. It was directed at our opponents, for whom Pat was of course advocating. She got the last word in, it was memorable, and I'm willing to bet it made some people stop and think.
The most effective part is that it reads like it was said as a dry, almost humorous comment. Was it sarcastic or facetious? That kind of good-humored response often plays well; see some of FDR, Clinton and Obama's political speeches, although I'm partial to FDR myself.

So in conclusion, Atman (lol at myself), I must agree with your opinion - this was pretty brilliant. I'd like to know who it was, and I may try to find it after work tomorrow.

But for now, I'm off to bed. 5:45 comes early.

Thanks for posting this!

11. Niger uranium forgeries
In his January 2003 State of the Union speech, U.S. President George W. Bush said, "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

These sixteen words were based on forgeries:

The Niger uranium forgeries are forged documents initially revealed by Italian Military intelligence. These documents seem to depict an attempt made by Saddam Hussein in Iraq to purchase "yellowcake" uranium powder from Niger during the Iraq disarmament crisis.
