Maybe its time to intervene in Saudi Arabia |
|
They have a repressive regime.
They abuse their citizens.
They harshly hold down dissent.
Why not?

1. Are they bombing and shelling entire towns indiscriminately? |
|
Are they using anti-aircraft cannons on peaceful protesters?
Are gangs of their mercenaries roaming the streets and shooting anyone they see?
Did the leaders of the opposition request assistance?

3. It seems we (the western powers) did almost a hundred years ago. |
|
They made a movie about it called, "Lawrence of Arabia". It seems the end result is what we have today. Shall we interfere even more?

4. If you want perfect consistency, join a new species. |

If you oppose the Saudi Family Evil Monarchy (as we all do), surround them with democratic governments (or at least popular ones), as it appears many Arab people wish to do. Then sit and wait.
I'd like that. It would give them hives.

7. Way, way, way, way past time. I've favored regime change there for decades. |
|
My tongue is not in cheek. I really think the world would be better off without the House of Saud having a hand on the global wheel and that they are behind much of the repression and acts of terrorism world wide.
I don't have a "why not" other than destabilizing the oil market completely and that because of religious sensitivity it might well throw the entire region into a Holy War, even those that don't hold with the regime.
All of that said, action still may be for the best. Saudi Arabia is a principle enemy of peace, self determination, and humanity at large and can be expected to come out from behind even the semblance of a mask they have on today when their oil runs dry. Probably better to deal with the mess now than in the condition that is coming to head at some not that distant time.
