MCDONALD’S VALUES
MCDONALD’S VALUES

We place the customer experience at the core of all we do
Our customers are the reason for our existence. We demonstrate our appreciation by providing them with high quality food and superior service, in a clean, welcoming environment, at a great value. Our goal is QSC&V for each and every customer, each and every time.

We are committed to our people
We provide opportunity, nurture talent, develop leaders and reward achievement. We believe that a team of well-trained individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, working together in an environment that fosters respect and drives high levels of engagement, is essential to our continued success.

We believe in the McDonald’s System
McDonald’s business model, depicted by the “three-legged stool” of owner/operators, suppliers, and company employees, is our foundation, and the balance of interests among the three groups is key.

We operate our business ethically
Sound ethics is good business. At McDonald’s, we hold ourselves and conduct our business to high standards of fairness, honesty, and integrity. We are individually accountable and collectively responsible.

We give back to our communities
We take seriously the responsibilities that come with being a leader. We help our customers build better communities, support Ronald McDonald House Charities, and leverage our size, scope and resources to help make the world a better place.

We grow our business profitably
McDonald’s is a publicly traded company. As such, we work to provide sustained profitable growth for our shareholders. This requires a continuing focus on our customers and the health of our system.

We strive continually to improve
We are a learning organization that aims to anticipate and respond to changing customer, employee and system needs through constant evolution and innovation.

4. I believe McDonalds was different in the beginning
I never had a McDonald's burger until I was into adulthood. My husband says the food is very different now, from what it was early on.

And I'm not saying anything negative about Mr. or Mrs. Kroc.

Since the OP did not comment, I'm interested in what their thoughts are. Perhaps I'm hijacking the thread in an entirely different direction. What do you think itsrobert?

5. I've eaten McDonald's since 1966 or so.
One of the first restaurants I remember was in Rio Piedras, just outside the University of Puerto Rico. My grandfather would take me there. It was great. He'd order and pick up from a counter that opened to the outside world. We sat down at a table outdoors. Now that you mention it, the food did taste better. In fact, a lot has changed since then...

8. yeah...i see a change too
when we go on field trips we eat at mcdonalds pretty often--their dollar makes lunch affordable. but i've notice, especially in the last couple of year, a real change in their food. size wise and taste wise.

6. They don't always practice what they preach
I worked on McDonald's regional advertising for six years. I remember when they came up with the "vegetarian" formula for their french fries. They secretly used beef tallow flavoring in order to keep the flavor similar to their famous taste. I remember how much they laughed about hoodwinking the public and the regulators over this. Took a long time but they got caught.

Overall, McDonald's is very much like the military. They expect 110% loyalty, 110% conformity, and total dedication to the cause. They do not tolerate outside-the-box thinking very well, they like good soldiers. It really is their way or the highway.

That said, they do provide decent employment for those who fit the mold. Restaurant managers can make a decent living and franchise owners can do really well if they get lucky.

But I wouldn't describe McDonald's as anything better than an efficient corporate machine.

10. That's kind of what I was thinking
However I don't know anything about the inside workings, so you have given me a bit of perspective. Thank you.

3. Someone tell me if this is mistaken...
Because it's a belief and not something I KNOW. And, I'm not a business person. It seems to me that one can neither grow a company nor provide sustained growth of profits in perpetuity. At some point, there is always an end. And when there's no where else to go... when the needs of people and nature are no longer being met, the system eventually breaks down.

That's the law of plants and that's what I do know about. There is a seed, birth, growth, fullfillment of life plan, diminishing returns and then death (change).

So what if we grew our businesses on a natural model? Based on natural systems. Would that be possible and what would it look like?
