Read something today really scary (and heard something else scary, an update)

I have something of a schedule. When I wake up I get ready for work, check giveawayoftheday.com for new programs, hit up DU while cooking for something for lunch, and check facebook. Then I head off to work. Today I didn't go to work (taking care of baby girl).

A 'friend' on facebook is a huge RWer and posts things from his buddy beck. I usually ignore such things and avoid RW sites but today I went ahead and looked at his link.

Here is his post:
"ON TAPE. LEFTISTS OPENLY PLANNING ECONOMIC TERRORISM AGAINST THE UNITED STATES!!!! Listen to what they are planning. Listen to their tactics. Note their timeline. And watch the news. Pay attention and know who the real enemies of this country are and where they may be found."

So I went to the link. Ignored the main content and read the comments.

I scrolled down. And down some more. It seemed like the comments went on forever, and they were - to say the least - fucked up.

I finally got to the last and saw at the end 'Page 1 of 12' (it is now page 1 of 15).

The comments alone were enough to make me shake my head - but the fact that I know this guy, and I have seen others I thought were rational people jumping in to agree with him - well it just scared me.

You may not want to give such a site business, may not want to in any way at all give them traffic. But there is clear evidence there showing what we face - and how the rw sees folks like us.

And there are many, as can be seen from the link, who see us as an enemy, as terrorists.

As far as hearing something scary. My X called me a bit ago. The X-ray she had of her lungs - well it showed several masses. They want her to go to her Dr. first thing in the morning. I don't know what is going to happen, don't know what the Dr. will say. I did not, will not, say anything to baby girl about today. Just going to try and go on like nothing is wrong until we hear something more.

Got a lot on my mind. Tried to ignore it all today and just focus on baby girl and such. Could not believe that to some I am not just the enemy but considered a terrorist. Me. My X too really if you read the posts of those sick people at the link.

You, my friends here on DU, are apparently the scum of the earth and want to destroy America. My X who is getting help with medical bills from the state and able to get the care she needs is a parasite and a terrorist - all because she is 'liberal'.

The people at the link above vote. They hate. They see you and me as evil. And, as is obvious from their rantings, they have a solution to the problem of folks here and elsewhere who don't tow their line.

3. This isn't just a few people who think this. I have been hearing a lot of the same things from

family members lately. My sister and brother-in-law yelling about people on welfare. I told them it isn't the poor and ill that they should be yelling about it is the damn Wall Street Banker thieves and the Hedge Fund Traitors and those Corporations that pay NO taxes! That is who they need to scream about!

5. They're very brave on the internet

Remember these people pass for normal in everyday life. They're just taking advantage of the fact that no one knows them online. A lot of bravado behind their keyboards.

If people really felt like this they'd be killing liberals in the streets. As it is they hide behind closed doors and vent to strangers they'll safely never meet.

6. They're afraid, and they should be.

They can't survive in a world where their authority figures have been crushed. They don't know how to think for themselves.

7. Think of the folks who post on Beck's site like the Taliban

or Phelps folks - they are extremists - not everyone on the right thinks the way they think - the divide is truly not that great.

I've tried to encourage folks to join mixed boards so that they can post with the conservatives and see that they are not all evil and horrible. Posting and communicating at mixed boards let the right see that not all liberals are like the craziest among us too.

Not every muslim is a terrorist, not every rightie is a neo-con hatefilled bigot and not every christian is a phelplike hater.

Stop focusing on the worst of the population and go find some of the average folks who don't spend their days posting on the internet.
