1. The part of the story I heard said the son ransacked the Dad's room to get the guns...
...that's not exactly 'providing' them. Unless there was another part of the story I didn't hear.

3. That's what I heard too
He ransacked his own room before going into his father's room, ransacking it & taking some of his father's guns besides some of his own. The story was about PTSD & its effects on soldiers. Unrec the OP for disingenuous title.

2. It sounds to me like a family that has always had guns around for hunting.
No one wants to believe a member of the family will use a gun to harm them self.

Not 1, but 2 9mm (automatic) pistols, a 357 pistol with a laser site, 30-30 cal repeating rifle, AND an AR 15 assault rifle.

.....BTW...I own a pistol, but it's always been out of reach of my sons.
