That atmosphere got frighteningly close at times to classic Fascism. He didn't conjure this on his own of course: the corporate media after 9-11 was 100% down with The Program. The opposition party - well for the most part there wasn't any. If it happens in Canada, I have to say I haven't any idea what you do to combat it. We didn't stop it. It just gradually choked on its own excesses here. Its failure (a temporary remission, most likely) certainly wasn't the result of any grand strategy the Democrats countered with - unless rolling over and pissing on yourself is a strategy.
