U.S. bans imports of dairy products from near Fukushima plant
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday it will ban imports of dairy products and vegetables from an area near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, citing ''radionuclide contamination.''

The measure will cover products such as milk and spinach from Fukushima, Gunma, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures, the FDA said.

1. Fortunately, only 4% of our food imports are from Japan.
Furthermore, one of my favorite cooking ingredients, Kikkoman Soy Sauce, is now made in Wisconsin.

4. Japan is not much of a cheese-producing country
No native cheeses to speak of, most natural cheese in Japan is imported.
I imagine that whatever Japanese cheese that is imported in the US (Snow Brand?) is probably mainly for the benefit of Japanese living in the US.
