What is the difference between liberal and progressive
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 02:00 AM by Riftaxe
I know what a progressive is, i have listened to the early 1900+ radio speeches, i have read the transcripts up till the 1950's

I know I am a liberal, and I would never even acknowledge a historical progressive. Only a fucking moran(sic..on purpose) would believe that twaddle.

If you are a liberal, tell us why and how.

What do you know about the progressive movement up until the '20's

Why (assuming you are silly enuff to adopt that moniker) are you a progressive, and how do you believe that differs from the historic ones.

1. Here is a difference - FDR was a progressive, and Obama is a liberal
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 02:03 AM by truedelphi
One stood by and with the people during the Depression, and the other has pretended that he is on our side, while taking very few actions that have done anything more than loosen the noose around the middle class American's neck (We still will hang to the death when the floor beneath our feet gives way.)

I stand with FDR, And I faint dead away when any emanations from Obama happen to occur.

He has become a sort of Gollum to me. Pretending to be a friend, only so he can sneak up and get the Final Ring Of Power.

2. I would argue that FDR was a Liberal
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 02:11 AM by Riftaxe
however that obviously would undercut public service sector unions. FDR was visciously againts them. Do you still stand by FDR?

BTW FDR was not a progressive in any means during the time.

I will even go further and say I much prefer Eleanor (despite her flaunting of rations), sadly during the time the entire nation was on stamps, she became known for her dinner parties. However, she moved race relations more forward then any other i can think of during her tenure, and for that...the woman gets my admiration!

Don't remember reading that biography about FDR - "1933 to 1945 - FDR's Reign of Genocidal Terror"

You will have to ship me the copy when you are done with it.

13. good night
and admittedly a bit sorry to be so abrasive! People tend to ignore the bad in history in favor of the great. No sane person would argue FDR was not a great (or the greatest) President, but there is always a bit more backstory.

To me that makes it a bit more human :)

16. Neither is a well-defined term.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 07:58 AM by Donald Ian Rankin
It is not possible to say "liberalism means X, and people who use it to mean Y are Wrong"; there are multiple different usages and no one is more authoritative than the others.

It's worth noting that the Australian usage, while not "wrong", is very much at odds with the usage in most of the rest of the world, though.
