CREW: GOP leaders knew they were breaking the law RE: State Troopers (WI)

WI has a horrible man as Governor and his Repug poodles in the Legislature are, for the most part--ready and willing to lap up to his crap.

GOP leaders knew they were breaking the law RE: State Troopers
Wed, 03/23/2011 - 1:02pm | Steve Hanson

Interesting blog post by CREW in Washington today. Apparently Scott Fitzgerald and crew realized they were breaking the law in regard to sending out state troopers after the Democratic Senators - but they weren't going to let a detail like that stop them. Open Records Requests are not going to be the friend of this administration, apparently.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and his Republican cohorts in the legislature have some explaining to do. The rookie governor rose to national fame after picking a bare knuckled political fight with Democrats over union rights. He showed up on our radar when he illegally sent in the Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) to search for the Democratic state senators who had fled to Illinois.

6. Walker was taken to court and ordered to release these emails and fined
court costs of 7,000.00 dollars --which I think the WI taxpayers will end paying. Damm.

2. An employer of mine once said: Do whatever you please. Let them take you to court.
It usually works. They scream "I'll see you in court!" You say, " I cannot wait." They vanish.

What you have to remember is that it's a bluff. If they really take you to court, you're dead.

These bastards were counting on a lack of will and money to take them to court.

Prosecute their criminal asses.

4. There are some active law suits regarding
the rushed through bill on demolishing the state union folks but I do not know if there is one for this state trooper issue. Maybe it will come now??

7. Yes, this is sort of the classic corporate gambit
They look at the odds and often determine that breaking the law is worth it.

Needless to say, the notion of ethics isn't even a factor in their equation.

11. CREW also letter sent today to the WI Government Accountability Board.
But Walker's office said there were no records of communication about the State Troopers. HUH??

Back in February, CREW filed a complaint with the nonpartisan Government Accountability Board over the misuse of state troopers, and today provided the board with this new information.

It seems pretty clear that Gov. Walker and Sen. Fitzgerald knowingly violated the law. It’s up to the Government Accountability Board to hold them accountable.
