Wolves could be removed from endangered species list
SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) – The U.S. government said on Friday it had struck a deal with wildlife advocates to remove some 1,200 wolves in Idaho and Montana from the endangered species list.

Federal protections could be lifted from the wolves if a federal judge signs off on a settlement agreement filed on Friday in U.S. District Court in Montana.

The wildlife groups had sued to keep roughly 1,600 wolves in the Northern Rockies on the endangered species list.

Under the proposed agreement between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and 10 conservation groups, the estimated 1,200 wolves in Idaho and Montana would be delisted and management of the animals, including target population numbers and hunting quotas, would be handed back to those states.

2. The shooting of wolves in Montana is because of the free range meat industry.
Free range meat is difficult in areas with large, predatory animals.

4. There needs to be some balance
Ever since California banned cougar hunting, those that survived the population flare and die off have gotten bolder over time. They are the top of the local food chain and have no fear. We can not allow that to happen with wolves. That said, they should not be trophies either.

It should be noted that cougars are my nearest neighbors where I live. I have even named them...but I always carry a weapon when working outside.

6. Pretty broad statement, not to mention unproveable

Wolves are carnivorous predators, to state categorically that they have not attacked or killed humans in the past is silly. The Inuit people might disagree with you as well.

We all know that my neighbors the cougars certainly have...
