9 Bills That Would Put Creationism in the Classroom
State governments are grappling with massive budget deficits, overburdened social programs, and mountains of deferred spending. But never mind all that. For some conservative lawmakers, it's the perfect time to legislate the promotion of creationism in the classroom. In the first three months of 2011, nine creationism-related bills have been introduced in seven states—that's more than in any year in recent memory:

1. Texas
Legislation: HB 2454

2. Kentucky
Legislation: The Kentucky Science Education and Intellectual Freedom Act (HB 169)

3. Florida
Legislation: SB 1854

4. Tennessee
Legislation: HB 368 and SB 893

5. Oklahoma
Legislation: The Sooner State kicked off its creationism legislation season early with the January 19 pre-filing of SB 554

6. New Mexico
Legislation: HB 302

7. Missouri
Legislation: HB 195

may be a lot of things but legislation like this sure makes me happy I'm here instead of in any of these States.

I'm sure the teabaggers are all a twitter over just how many jobs are being created and dollars saved by these "vital" pieces of legislation.

4. Isn't "creationism" something that should be taught in churches?
Isn't that what "Sunday School" is for?

19. Each of these bills should have a rider
that requires religious organizations to teach evolution during their services.

9. And the same legislators complain that US students are getting a substandard education
Seriously, how are our kids going to learn math, science, logic, or reason if they are taught to equate creationism with science?

10. Hell - I'll teach yer fucking creationism in public schools
I'll tell them its a biblical fairy-tale handed down from illiterate nomads

I'll show them the inconsistencies in the biblical accounts of "creation"

Then I'll tell them there is no scientific basis validate that nonsense

11. You want to really be shaken to your core? TX HB2454 is for higher education institutions
That's right. It's for those pesky college professors that disavow evolution.

15. I am cool with creationism in the classroom ...
... so long as it's part of an elective course about mythology.

Probably needs to be saved for high school. Does not strike me as age appropriate for middle school.

18. Put it in the classrooms
in a history class or perhaps a religion elective.

Just not science class, because whatever you think of it creationism is not science. It can't be tested it can't be falsified and it's based entirely on speculation rather than evidence.

20. How do you teach creationism?
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 01:51 PM by Shiver
Is there anything more to it than "God created everything"?

*Bell rings*

Teacher: Alright, take your seats. Today we're going to learn about creationism.

*students pay attention, kinda*

Teacher: Creationism is the idea that God created everything. Since this isn't actual science, there's no way to test it.

*awkward silence for twenty minutes*

Teacher: That's all. Free period.
