Democrats backed by wine, GOP by beer: report
March 23, 2011, 5:01 PM ET.Democrats backed by wine, GOP by beer: report.

When it comes to booze, the Democratic Party gets its biggest backing from wine companies while Republicans seem to have better luck from beer brewers, the Center for Responsive Politics reports in an analysis of campaign finance data.Read about the center’s report.

A top contributor to Democrats during the 2010 election cycle was E. & J. Gallo Winery. Individuals connected to the winery allocating more than $256,700 in the election cycle of which 93% went to Democrats, according to the center. The Gallo family have given $1.6 million to Democratic candidates during the past two decades, the center reports....

... However, they are in better shape with beer brewers, notably Molson Coors Brewing. According to the center, the brewer of Moors and Coors beer, has contributed $1.73 million to federal-level candidates and campaigns and 80% of that or $1.4 million has gone to the Republican Party since the 1990 election cycle.

5. Seriously? Coors? Gallo?
Who do the GOOD brewers and winemakers support?

And WTF is "Moors?" Did that happen after Molson bought the Rocky pisswater facility? Or maybe they meant "Moops?"

10. Most craft brewers are pretty progressive,
With the exception of certain regionals like Leinenkugel, most craft brewers are pretty much tio the left.

In fact, Sierra Nevada won the Green Business of the Year Award for 2010. Craft brewers tend to be community-minded and eco-friendly in their approaches. I think they support Dems in large part.

11. Just for the record, Leinenkugel is union-made and Jake Leinenkugel supported David Obey

Yeah, Dick Leine ran for Senate as a right-wing republican, but apparently not everyone in the family is a wing-nut :)

Jake is the company CEO, and he donated to Obey in 2004 ...

My point about green microbrewers stands.

Places like Sierra Nevada, Mad River, Stone, etc.; they all try to do things to have the least ecological impact. Very progressive business models, AND they are quite financially successful, too, so it *can* be done.
