Where I work, they want to hire a person, but the person has to have a job
because there is less chance they'd be a thief and not lazy..............

I work for Republicans..............

I am very depressed, and it is difficult to share this with you.

1. It's not just Republicans with these types of stupid rules
I've worked for many Democrats who seem to have similarly stupid rules.
Example: Bachelors degree required, doesn't matter if their experience is superior to someone else's.

9. I hear you there. I'm not directly involved in the interviews but usually
know who the prospects are. At least with part of our staff I have a say in who may or may not get hired. I unofficially try and check out anyone that has a shot at a job. In a town of about 50,000, I can sometimes find out a lot.
Anyone that seems to be a teabagger type will get the thumbs down from me. I figure someone like that is actively trying to do away with good jobs, and should go looking at their beloved Walmart, where they will feel more at home.

3. I think they assume "he must have been laid off for a REASON"
as in "He was a bad employee" rather than "he got laid off when Bush Destroyed the Economy." Those employers have short memories.

4. It's discriminatory
but apparently our dear leaders find it acceptable. Once again some are more equal than others. I'm guessing these are the same kind of folks that use credit scores as a qualifier for employment. Both of those practices should be legally prohibited. But none of our leaders seem to have the intestional fortitude to even consider the possibility.

6. What makes them think that thieves and lazy people don't have jobs?

Is everyone at your place working their fingers to the bone? Really? Do notepads and paper clips undergo "shrinkage"? Puh-leeze.

Maybe we should figure out how to get Democrats to own the assets, and then we could work WITH Democrats, our sister and brother owners...

They Repubs would eventually run out of workers, and since we wouldn't buy any of their stuff, they would eventually lose their business. Then you wouldn't have to care what they think.

I might have added a lot of details about how they lose their businesses, their homes, etc. and then after a lot of pain and disappointment, just die off. It could be the basis for a series of novels called "Not Left Behind".

10. I wonder how this attitude will affect me...
I've been a stay-at-home mom for the past nine years. Technically, I've been unemployed.

Boy these guys would probably consider me the ultimate slacker/lazy person/thief!

I am lucky though. I might be able to freelance and start a business. So I won't complain
too much. However, this type of attitude makes it very difficult for women like me, and there
are many of us out there who no longer feel safe with one household income.

It's ridiculous to discriminate against people who are unemployed. So many talented people
have been laid off and without work for months.

Crazy.

11. It's a Republican world: unless you have money, you don't belong
One should be happy to be allowed to merely exist.

13. Naive
This is a money\business issue - not politics.

Democrats are just as guilty of pandering to money and ignoring the worker.

It is a human world and we are a flawed species.

15. It is about politics and people without souls
When you're looking to hire a $25,000 a year position you want someone who is ready to work and focused, not someone making a lateral move......hire much?

12. My husband's was off shored to India, TWICE
Generally, he got a lot of sympathy from most people. Sympathy (must have been Democrats), but no jobs. You would think that would make him sympathetic to others? Not at all. Doesn't work that way with Repugs.

16. Maybe the dystopian cyberscrawlings of the late 80's and 90's...
...weren't so far off the mark after all.

The line of separation between the groups is growing, and there is very little that can or will change it. You can't play 'within the system' when the system is designed to avoid and ignore you.

Now you have to have a job to get a job? That's a very self-selective work force right there, and a rather finite one at that.

17. Here's how to get around that;

On the resume, for out-of-work periods, put 'self employed'. Include some particular skill you might get paid for. Helps to have a registered DBA too.

That way, you can say you work for yourself in gainful fashion and your just looking for a new challenge.

20. It does.
I'm sure that there are employers for whom it would be insufficient, but it improves one's chances of getting an interview.

I've suggested it to a few people and it's worked for them.
