Email to Walker suggested FAKING attack on Governor Walker!!
Indiana prosecutor denies encouraging Wisconsin violence
By Kate Golden
Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism

"The email came to Gov. Scott Walker from the personal account of a deputy prosecutor and Republican activist in Indiana.

After praise for Walker, the email — sent Feb. 19, during union demonstrations against Walker’s budget repair bill — then took a darker turn. It suggested that the situation in Wisconsin presented “a good opportunity for what’s called a ‘false flag’ operation.”

“If you could employ an associate who pretends to be sympathetic to the unions’ cause to physically attack you (or even use a firearm against you), you could discredit the unions,” the email said."

40. He compounded the problem by lying about it

He should have known it was traceable and that he was alleging a crime had taken place with the "hacking" excuse. His excuse invited an investigation, and he realized where it would lead.

While it was a pretty quick admission, lying about it first really doesn't help him.

11. Wow - these bastards are confirming everything we suspected of them.
I wonder if some of the loose bullets found around the Capitol was part of that "plan".

http://host.madison.com/news/local/ask/article_b3713370-52ee-11e0-95a4-001cc4c03286.html

Unless a squirrel hunter with a holey coat pocket comes forward, the discovery of .22 caliber bullets scattered at three locations outside the state Capitol on March 10 will remain a puzzle of motives unsolved.
Dane County Sheriff's Office deputies and UW-Madison police discovered 41 bullets — hollow point, commonly used for plunking at smaller varmints — at three spots: 11 near the State Street entrance, 29 near the King Street entrance, and one bullet found at the North Hamilton Street entrance.

15. Reminds me of a story that Molly Ivins used to tell about a TX state legislator
(republican) who hired his cousin to take a shot at him just barely wounding his arm, so the legislator could accuse the "communists" of trying to take him out. When he was found out, the Texas state legislature made it a crime to hire someone to shoot you.

Molly's comment: "So don't y'all be thinkin' you can come down here to Texas to hire someone to shoot you!" It was one of her funniest stories...

Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 03:49 PM by Bucky
It's remarkably stupid thing to put in the email and, as remarkably stupid as some Republicans are, the email's just as likely to be a "false flag" of its own. After all, emailing the governor to suggest that he "employ an associate" to do this seems a little too pat, a little too much of a moustache twirling villainy for me to buy into outright.

The email will be investigated. I recommend holding fire until we have a better sense that Carlos Lam, who doesn't seem to be an intimate of Walker's, actually did this.

That's my initial reaction anyway. Maybe I'm being too skeptical.

This jerk-off's boss is already on record saying that Lam is innocent and that is the end of it as far as he is concerned.

As far as I can tell there is NO investigation announced by anyone with legal jurisdiction at this time. Let's hope there is an investigation.

18. Seems authentic, but...
... God, I hope we're not being "Roved" on this.

The Rove approach is to plant a false incriminating document, let it gain some momentum before debunking its authenticity and in the process undermining the credibility of broader objections. In other words, force the baby to be thrown out with the bathwater.

From what I see though, this seems authentic.

25. So you believe that Karl Rove came to rural Johnson County Indiana,
broke into the office or home of a lowly deputy prosecutor while he was allegedly shopping for a mini-van with the wife and kiddies and sent this email to entrap Democrats into getting upset?

Thank you for this very amusing post!

Cheers!

Cheers back.

And by the way, I wasn't debunking the story, I was urging caution. Nor did I mean to suggest that Rove was personally involved. I questioned whether it didn't seem like a Rove-like approach.

36. Would it not make more sense to send the email anonymously or from a bogus email?
Why would Karl Rove or anyone else pick THIS guy to set up as a patsy? It simply makes no sense. It would have been far easier and less trouble to send an email from a bogus account. In addition, why would Rove or anyone think that an email sent to the Governor's public email account along with thousands of other emails would sway him to do anything?

I will grant you that caution is always a good approach, but this event is exactly as it appears. Also, it has been reported that the dumbass has now admitted to the deed. You can be sure he admitted it so he would not have to lie to investigators and commit the prosecutable crime of lying to the FBI or perjury. As it stands now, he might only have to face sanctions against his law license. His comments are extraordinarily stupid, but probably not a crime.

Cheers!

49. It's been done before by a desperate politician, the politician died
I've read about a desperate politician who was behind in the polls and decided to fake an assassination attempt in order to win the sympathy vote.

They botched the fake assassination, the politician died a few days later (before the election) from injuries sustained faking the assassination attempt.

I read about it in a book of stupid things politicians have done throughout history. I believe it was a Japanese politician who did this in Japan, but still, similar idea, fake an assassination attempt to gain sympathy.
