MSNBC has gotten rid of prison shows filling weekend days and has |
|
up to date news with live hosts. Maybe soon they will get round to setting up studios where Rachel Maddow is not talking over a deep voiced male talking in the background.

Guess people eventually get tired of watching tattooed scumbags and gangbangers in prison, who knew.

11. That's unfair! Didn't they also have weekend shows about cops answering calls and pulling cars over? |
|
Anyway, that's good news.

3. Really? When will this start? |

Of course I ceased watching msnBS a couple of weeks ago but I'm fascinated by this decision. Maybe they realized they were losing too many viewers.

5. I've LOVE to see "best of the week" shows on the weekends. |
|
To be clear, Saturday night would be a great time for a weekly "best of" recap of each of their regular nightly shows.

... because last weekend at approx 11pm on Friday night they started in with the prison shows again, only to flip to 'live' news on Sat & Sun mornings (probably because of Japan and Libya) ...

9. The NYT had a story of CNN passing MSNBC on weeknights |
|
MSNBC had been beating them until the incidents over the last couple of weeks in Japan and Libya, CNN of course, had wall to wall coverage on the weekends. While MSNBC was showing prisons shows that has now transfered into weeknight ratings for CNN. MSNBC dropped the ball big time http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/23/business/media/23msnbc.html?_r=1&src=me&ref=business

First there was COP, then this crap jail stuff. They'll never stop. Not until they're forced to conform to defined news standards.

17. How about a cable news channel actually having reportage rather than talking heads? |
|
Take one of those show's budgets and send a camera operator and reporter to Haiti to see how NGO's are using money. Or to Houston to see how they are dealing with sprawl. Or to Omaha to see how farm subsidies affect people. Or to northeast DC to see how gentrification affects people and neighborhoods. Or...

28. RT America..(Russia Today) |
|
This cable network actually does limited American reporting. Limited as they do not have the budget much above Ch. 9, much less a cable network. The Alyona Show @ 6P The Big Picture w/Thom Hartmann @ 8P they stream live at www.rt.com/usa

18. I Never Understood the Attraction of Prison TV shows |
|
I never understood the attraction of hours and hours of prison shows on MSNBC. "So, Jimmy, do you like gladiator movies?"
Now if MSMBC would broadcast shows of hot lesbian inmates, that would be a different story.

20. As much as I didn't watch these shows |
|
(I've been to plenty of prisons, so there wasn't much for me to see) and a constant diet of them every weekend is probably a bit much for anybody, but I think it would probably be a good thing for more people in America to have some clue about our utterly fucked up prison system. It's mostly out of sight, out of mind for most people, and believe me, it's really fucked up.

24. MSNBC may be feeling the loss of Keith and of course the prison stuff has always sucked |
|
They had a strong lead-in with Keith..not so much with Lawrence O'Donnell
Their ideal lineup would be Rachel, Ed, and THEN O'Donnell
Rachel should have 2 hours...one for straight-up news, and the 2nd hour for investigative stuff

but I actually liked the prison shows. It is interesting to see lifers welcoming the newcomers and helping them along. Also that one program where they showed the victim's families actually getting along and visiting the one responsible. That was very powerful to me.
