Chernobyl Caused Yellow Rain Too! OS: Pollen

http://dailybruin.detroitsoftworks.com/index.php/article/2006/04/remembering-chernobyl

Published April 25, 2006, 9:00 pm in News

Thinking back to 20 years ago, it’s the splashing in yellow rainwater that Antonina Sergieff vividly recalls.

The third-year graduate student didn’t know it then, but the unnatural color of those puddles in her hometown of Gomel, Belarus were due to radioactive particles spewing from a nuclear explosion 80 miles away.

Surrounded by ancient pine forests, the Chernobyl nuclear power station exploded during the early morning hours of April 26, 1986, setting off a raging radioactive fire that expelled over 190 tons of toxic material into the atmosphere.

Today, on the 20th anniversary of the incident, the Russian languages and literatures student can look back to the explosion and accept a childhood surrounded by radioactive contamination.

5. Well, it is Spring. I was in North Carolina one year, and everything
was yellow from pollen. It happens. So, that could actually be the case in Japan. I don't know. If someone sends me some of the water, I'll check it for pollen.

6. Is it spring or winter in Japan right now?
True about the pollen, we're going through it right now - within 5 minutes of wiping down your car, glasses and window sills, the pollen recoats everything.

But it's spring in NC - just wondering what season is it there?

7. It is spring throughout the northern hemisphere. However
Japan is a little bit north and they had snow last week.

Different parts of the same state (just thinking where I live) can have radically different weather patterns.

I guess the only way to know for sure is by eyes on the ground - Has the plant life started to blossom yet and in what part of Japan.
