Images that resemble you, created and distributed without your authorization
Are you morally responsible for the existence of such images? Are you morally responsible for the images that your fellow citizens have stored in their minds? Are you morally responsible for the knee-jerk reactions of your fellow citizens when they think that there is a match between your face and the images in their minds?

8. Apparently the law in at least one state ...
requires exposure of faces even though such exposure might provoke disturbances when people react to the faces.

12. I guess that will end the career of all political
cartoonists if authorization is needed to create an image of a politician.

15. Here's an actual news story ...
Edited on Fri Mar-25-11 06:33 PM by Boojatta
Link to an archived DU thread

In the story at the link, it seems that there is no controversy about whether or not the images merely resemble the person. Also, in the story at the link, the creation and distribution of the images was authorized by the person who later began working as a teacher.

However, it's not difficult to imagine a modified scenario. If there were nothing more than a strong resemblance between two different people, one a teacher and the other a porn star, then would the authorities reveal that they themselves watch porn and openly call for some kind of investigation? Alternatively, if a teacher resembles a porn star, might people high in the hierarchy of authority decide to create opaque and intractable difficulties for the teacher, and pressure the teacher into quitting?

16. Very astute observation.
But how would they establish it was the teacher, and not a clone of the teacher made by a pornographic film producer after having seen that teacher in his son's class?

17. Can't you imagine a more plausible scenario?
Edited on Fri Mar-25-11 06:51 PM by Boojatta
Just to get your imagination working, here are two kinds of scenarios:

  1. http://gatesclone.com/
  2. Something like a "Jurassic Park" or "Capricorn One" scenario. (Those are movie titles.)

Edited to add: I presumed that you meant biological clone. Was my presumption wrong?
