so when do the burning times start here? |
|
caught a few minutes of "saving africa's witch children" this morning --absolutely heartbreaking what these children are enduring, and a thought crossed my mind.
with all the insanity of the teabaggers, the fundie reichwingers, the madness that is happening in every legislative assembly, etc., the attacks on unions, teachers, children, women, the poor--when does the religious persecution start? we have a "candidate" whose pastor is a witch hunter (who actually drove one woman to her death). we have a former president who said, with the faith-based initiatives, that atheists and others need not apply. we have the insanity of the dominionists and the biblical literalists. so, as all these people gain more power, feed on their "success", how soon before the persecutions start?

1. LIke Persecution of gays... |
|
it's happening now. Most of the moves are through the courts, but the fight to deny a group its rights simply because people do not like them. It is here.
How about Muslims?
King just held hearings on the Muslim Menace. It is a mild start, but...
How about labor?
Look at what is happening in Wiscosin and elsewhere.
How about liberals...
Rush Limbaugh has stated that liberals do not deserve their second amendndment rights
The extreme of burning people doesn't have to be reached. Persecution usually starts out small and grows.

10. If they win and take over, their values will become the norm while we become the mentally sick. |

And their determination and influence seems to be growing daily.

Quoted for truth.
That's the thing people don't realize when someone goes Godwin and compares America to Nazi Germany. Of course, when the argument is made, someone will argue "How dare you compare America to Nazi Germany! You don't see millions of people getting put into ovens here!"
But the Nazis also started small. You think they were able to put people into ovens when they first got started? No. They were a piddly-ass fringe party led by criminals that engaged in low-level thuggery in the 20's, and most Germans took them about as seriously as we take the Tea Party, which is to say they didn't. Then, the Depression hit, people were out of work, desperate and freaked out, and turned to the guys that blamed all the country's problems on the scapegoated out-group of convenience (in Germany's case, the Jews, among others.) Then, Hitler got corporate sponsorship, or shall I say, he cut a deal with the rich elites - Germany's Koch brothers, weaseled his way to the top, and the rest is history.
But to repeat the point, the Nazis started small. So excuse me for going Godwin and making the comparison. I think it fits.

Unfortunately, there are many that cannot accept that it might happen again. It's kind of sad really, we now know what to look for and yet as it stares us in the face we ignore it...hoping for some miracle.

2. In the south, they've just changed their tactics. |

They send you to therapy with therapists who torture you mentally for years on end. I'd rather have been burned at the stake years ago. Fuck these assholes. I'm still not completely over their attempts to "cure" me of my homosexuality...and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Now, they just do things differently. It's more "acceptable" to send someone to "therapy" for not believing. It doesn't look as bad as being burned at the stake, but it lasts years longer. They like this new "acceptable" method better, because they get off on other people's suffering and pain. If they can make that last for years on end, they are completely satisfied with themselves. It's all about control and domination. They thrive on beating people down mentally and controlling every aspect of someone's life. Burning someone at the stake only last a couple days then they are dead. Keeping someone alive so they can torture them for years and years to come feeds their insatiable need to be sadistic assholes.
Even exorcism leaves the victims alive (sometimes) so they can taunt them for years afterward. Control. Domination. Torture. They get off on that way more...the sick bastards.

6. The one who supposedly "cured" their homosexuality by raping them? |
|
Yes, I saw that. There are some completely sick bastards using religion to do hideous things in this world. If religion wasn't tied to what they were doing, they would be arrested and thrown in jail. Instead, they get away with their crap for years and years on end until they mess with the wrong kid and only then finally get charged for it.
That happens a LOT down here in NC. Over in the area around Charlotte (and especially in Gastonia), every time you turn around, there is another pastor being charged with child molestation. It's not always male on male. Sometimes it is male on female, but it happens way way way too often either way. It is truly deranged.

11. I guess you have not heard about GITMO yet? |
|
When we have a special off-shore prison to torture innocent people, I'd say we are there already!
Who needs prosecution when you can hold someone indefinitely without charges or the right to an attorney! Not to mention, you can just kill them too now!
