Bill would require drug tests for jobless benefits
AUSTIN, Texas — State lawmakers are considering legislation that would require unemployed Texans to pass a drug test before collecting jobless benefits.

The proposal from Republican Rep. Ken Legler of suburban Houston would deny unemployment dollars to those who fail a drug test.

He said allowing drug-users to collect benefits is stealing from hard-working people who aren't on drugs.

Texas business owners testifying before a House committee Thursday said they already require pre-employment drug tests for applicants. They said the tests boost confidence that prospective workers are drug-free.

3. yep. Never going to see a "random drug tests for elected officials" bill
Nor a "breathalyzer" test before voting on bills. But I'll bet those would be much more popular than this crap. Even with the righties.

4. Oh my! I agree! They are most likely voting
while drunk!!! Fuck! That says a lot to me. I think we should have a Citizens Referendum to install breathalyzers at the door of the Congressional Chambers!

How cool would it be to make 180,000 people take a drug test if you ( or your wife) owned part of a drug testing center

8. I've got no problem with drug screening before providing any sort of liquidable govt aid...
What I don' like is that they're expected to pay for the test themselves. Why expect poor people (who have no money) to pay for society's lack of trust? The money saved from witholding aid from people who failed should easily surpass the cost of the tests.
