PETA calls for more animal-friendly language in New International Version Bible
Animal activists say the Bible needs to be more considerate of God's furry friends.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has asked the Committee on Bible Translation to update the New International Version Bible to include more animal-friendly language, according to CNN.

In a letter to translators, the group called the Bible's current text "speciesist" and requested that pronouns like "he" and "she" be used instead of "it" when referring to animals.

"The public now recognizes that animals are feeling, intelligent individuals, capable of joy and suffering," PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich wrote in the letter.

4. War, union busting, nuke plants melting down,
the plutocrats runnimg amok destroying the middle class, and what are these asshats are worried about? The pronouns used for animals in a book of fiction.

Hey PETA, I did something actually meaningful for an animal last fall. I adopted a wonderful cat from a shelter. Why don't you try doing something similar on a national scale?

What poltroons. The FSM mocks and derides you. RAmen.

5. I'd start with a more woman-friendly version first...

...It's all bullshit anyway, but as long as we're playing the game, why not make things a little less burdensome on the women-folk?

7. And I was chided ...
... the other day here in another thread for offering the opinion that PETA, veganism and religion had similar characteristics.

I guess they do this for publicity ... but they need to hire a new PR person because PETA is mostly perceived as a joke because of these kinds of stunts.

Kind of hard to take "animal rights" very seriously when its proponents are using public nudity and telling other religions what they ought to do as their high profile advocacy platforms.

10. Anyone wishing to improve the lot of domestic animals
should volunteer to clean cages at an animal shelter, rather than follow this band of crazies around. When I think how much money goes into PETA's coffers every year, it makes me feel ill.

14. Hmm...here's one passage that will present some difficulties,
but I'll give it a try:

MARK 1
6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat LOCUSTS and wild honey;

That was John the Baptist.

MARK 1 (PETA VERSION)

6. And John was naked, for he would not wear camel's hair, nor girdles of skin about his loins. He did not eat locusts and wild honey, so that he would not harm the locusts nor deprive the young bees of their honey. And John laid himself down and died, from cold and hunger. None were baptized, that the animals might live in peace. Thus did men perish from the Earth, unsaved, for no person knew of Jesus.

See, they should hire me to do their translation. I'm good at that shit.

15. Do they just have a wheel-o-outrage
they spin from time to time to generate these stories?

Probably two actually: one with a source and the other the cause. This round just happened to hit "bible" and "specism"

I wonder how "speciesist" they consider the part of the Bible that talks about animal sacrifices.
