Fat Ho Burgers Causes Obvious Uproar in Texas
Friday, March 25, 2011, by Paula Forbes

Fat Ho Burgers is a new restaurant in Waco, Texas, and, as you can imagine, the name has stirred up some controversy. There's even a Facebook group dedicated to getting owner Lakita Evans to change the name! It's called "Keep Waco Texas Positive," and when they reached out to Evans to see if she needed the group's help, she apparently responded by saying "no thanks im good."

Evans is heroically defending the name all over the press. She wonders how her restaurant's name is all that different from Hooters, and, in the video below, tells a local news reporter that the name might be doing some good in this sick, sad world of ours: "Look at what's going on over there in Japan. I mean, it's quite clear to us that this world's not going to get any better...somebody's got to keep their sense of humor around here."

And it sounds like maybe their sandwiches — which have names like "Supa Dupa Fly Ho With Cheese" and the "Sloppy Ho Brisket" — are good? The news report below mentions they've been well-received and does, in fact, show a line heading out the door.

1. At first, I just thought it was a Chinese name
Fat and Ho are common Chinese names. I guess I'm more exposed to Chinese names than to street slang. LOL.

12. I thought Chinese, too
I was expecting to read about an Asian themed hamburger place; not being a fan of soy sauce I immediately rejected the place

13. That was my reaction, too.
But it does sound like their burgers really do have a lot of fat. As to the other part of the name, I just wouldn't know. ;-)

15. Same here. There's a famous old restaurant in San Diego called Fat City.
It's run by the Fat family.

The last owner, Tom Fat, was a great philanthropist here.

21. My favorite Chinese restaurant name...
...a place up in Tujunga, north of Los Angeles: The Poo-ping Palace.

I haven't been by there for several years, don't know if they're still in business.

9. AS for Hooters in Texas...
The ONLY Hooters I've ever been in that didn't live up to its name was in "We Grow 'Em Big" Texas - every waitress was an A cup!!!

That just cracked me the hell up.

22. Everyone should have an equal chance for a job (read on)
Okay, as far as Hooters is concerned, I do draw the line at men in tight orange shorts - that's a female's position.

That said, tit size and a "Playboy look" should NOT be requirements and I in no way meant to imply that they were. I was merely commenting on the irony of the "We Grow 'Em Big" Texas meme superimposed on a room full of A-cups.

In a similar ironic twist, the Showbiz Pizza Time company (owner of Chuck E. Cheese's) is in Irvine, TX. I went to the Chuck E. Cheese's there and found it to be the most pathetic excuse for a Chuck E. Cheese's anywhere in the country. Go figure.

I spent WAY too much time there (contract work) - and the municipality is fucking dry!!! You can tell when you cross the border because the road is lined with beer/liquor stores. Thank GOD for styrofoam coolers.
