The Immigration policy "against -Hispanics-only" issue has erupted in Central Florida
in an unlikely manner.

A student from a Liberal Arts College wrote an essay which someone on the reader's forum claimed was partly clipped from right-wing e-mails. Now we've seen these kinds of things erupting out in the West for sometime, but this one is interesting because it's happening on a college which some might refer to as Liberal (It's not. Most of the students come from very conservative, wealthy families who are anything but Liberal--however, some of the teachers are true Liberal Arts teachers who are there to expand minds.)

Anyway, if you can bring yourself to read the article, and then the reader comments, these are my questions,

(1) where does one get a copy of her article, and
(2) how do we go about finding out if it's astroturfed?
(3) And, oh, why does it always appear that there are more Libertarians on these reader forums, than Liberals?

According to some of those who wrote in the reader's forum she claimed the Fourteenth Amendment was improperly used to justify these births for citizenship. That sounds familiar, coming from right-wing screed.

Here's the article:

Immigration essay sparks anger at Rollins College

WINTER PARK — Jamie Pizzi, a freshman at Rollins College, said she never meant to come across as racist or hateful in the opinion piece she wrote for the campus newspaper last week.

<snip>

Pizzi's essay questions whether babies born in the United States to illegal immigrants should be automatically given U.S. citizenship. It's accompanied by a picture of a green alien that has apparently taken a guy's clothing and TV.

"These 'anchor babies,' as they are commonly referred, gain full citizenship from simply being born on American soil, and they are entitled to all the same benefits as you and I, including: free public school educations, financial aid for college and even Medicaid," she writes.

The strong reaction from faculty, students and others prompted a big gathering Thursday afternoon in the Bush Science Center auditorium. An estimated 200 to 300 people turned out — a significant crowd for the small private college in Winter Park, organizers said.

Or the other one, either.
