As disgusted as I am with today's Democrats and the Democratic Party in general, I can't think . . . |
|
. . . of myself as "not a Democrat."

being permanently "disgusted".
It gets really tiring.

23. I don't even know what to say to you. If Al Franken isn't progressive |
|
enough for you, then I can't imagine who might be. You may not be a Democrat, actually. Perhaps the Socialist Party or some other party would suit you better. I'm proud of helping Al Franken to be elected. I can't name a single person who could have been more progressive and had a chance of becoming the junior Senator from Minnesota. Can you? As it is, he almost didn't win.
What do you think can happen that would get candidates to the left of Al Franken elected? I cannot imagine that happening.

There are some AMAZING Democrats, willing to take a stand, and actually fight for it. They're out there. Let's make sure they know we support them!

27. Al Franken still gives me hope but even he has been |
|
MUCH TOO QUIET about much that is going on. Let's don't even talk about what some Dems have been up to, let's look at what the Repubs are trying to do. They should be denounced and ridiculed. The teachings of Jesus should be used to spotlight their hatred and hypocrisy. One doesn't even have to believe the Bible to take the tenets of Christianity and show what a bunch of evil schmucks these neocons are. Very few seem willing to take off the kid gloves. So, if YOU are not disgusted then, imo, you are either not paying attention or you are not a Liberal. Just sayin'.

8. See, that's part of the source of my disgust. |
|
Too many of today's office holding Democrats, top to bottom, are in that milieu, even if they won't admit they're there.
But the Koch brothers are just a part of it.

12. ... and we should remember it's small "d" democrats/democracy which are important -- |
|
not party labels -- you can be flying under the colors these days as we've seen
everywhere -- and not be supporting democracy.
It's this rw/Koch-cancer eating away at both parties that is moving everything into
facist territory --
:(

13. I used to equate the word Democrat with "Liberal" |
|
no more. As evidenced on Du in the past few months, liberals are not welcome in the Democratic party. I am an Independent. Republicans are too fucking stupid and greedy and Democrats are too weak and ineffective. Neither party deserves my loyalty.

unlike you, I don't constantly bash the Democratic Party. While you continue to be "disgusted", I'll be out working to get GOP officeholders recalled today, "Stinky".

17. I'm still a Democrat. But, I'm one who refuses to hold his nose. |
|
After 45 years, and 22 federal elections,(not counting the primaries) my nose has suffered enough for the sake of the "not as bad" party.
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.
"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.
“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." John Quincy Adams

20. K&R- I have been voting Democratic since 1968...sometimes I'm just |
|
not very happy with it, but the other guys are really fucking crazy now, and are working as hard as they can against all the American people who are not rich. So the Democrats get my votes,my small donations and my complaints...the republicans get my contempt.

30. I am and always have been a Democrat, always will too! ...... |
|
I will not be chased out of my life long party by a bunch of younger whipper snappers! I use to (and still sometimes do) call my self a liberal.
What has changed for me is, that now I have to 'also' state out loud: I label myself a "democratic principles, liberal, democrat". In reality that is what I actually always have been. Just never had to add all the qualifiers before.
