Stone tools 'demand new American story'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12851772

By Paul Rincon and Jonathan Amos Science reporters, BBC News

The long-held theory of how humans first populated the Americas may have been well and truly broken.

Archaeologists have unearthed thousands of stone tools that predate the technology widely assumed to have been carried by the first settlers.

The discoveries in Texas are seen as compelling evidence that the so-called Clovis culture does not represent America's original immigrants.

Details of the 15,500-year-old finds are reported in Science magazine.

1. I read about this
Isn't it cool? Especially for the fact that these kinds of stories make creationists heads asplode.

2. I suspect that eventually we will have evidence of several waves of migration -
and not all of them across the Bering Straits.

Clovis points actually more closely resemble contemporary points found in France than any found in NE Asia.

There are distint physiological differences between Native Americans in the west, and those in the East - many in the west and in S American could be plopped down in China and not get a second glance; many in the east could pass for middle-eastern or mediteranean.

Some sites in S America have been claimed to be 20,000 years old - that is dismissed by most mainstream archeologists, but the mainstream has been found to be wrong before.
