Radio Shack offers bang-up satellite TV promotion

HAMILTON, MT (AP) -- A Radio Shack in Montana is offering would-be satellite television customers a bit more bang for their buck.

The Ravalli Republic reports customers who sign up for some Dish Network packages at Radio Shack in Hamilton will be rewarded with a pistol or shotgun. Those not interested in the gun offer can pick a $50 Pizza Hut gift card.

Store owner Steve Strand said it took some haggling to get Dish Network to go along with the promotion, but he says it has tripled his business since it started last October.

The sign outside the business reads: "Protect yourself with Dish Network. Sign up now, get free gun."

1. Is this even legal??
What about the background checks? Or is that REALLY what Dish network wanted? Background on their customers?

3.  The background checks and 4473 forms
are handled through a local FFL dealer as per Federal and State law. Perfectly legal.

9. The Astute Reader(TM) would take a moment to read the cited article before asking such a question.

10. He did include something similar in "Bowling for Columbine."
There is a wonderfully surreal, yet comic scene where he goes into a bank to open an account because he saw an ad that stated he could get a free gun. The pleasant clerk at the bank said that they are a licensed firearms dealer, and that the required background check could be done right there; then he could choose the gun he wanted (they also had a gun vault) . This is done, and Moore (still inside the bank) inspects his new rifle and deadpans, "Isn't it kind of dangerous to be handing out guns in a bank?" This is even funnier than the "rabbit lady" scene in "Roger & Me."

6. Dish Network is the ONLY Blue Chip Company still advertising on Glenn Beck
 So this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

7. So you can blow the shit out of your satellite dish
the first time it craps out.

Makes perfect sense to me.

8. No, the messages on who to shoot come through the satellite dish-
unless you are smart enough to wear tinfoil.

11. Sounds good..
but I live in Washington state and currently have DirecTV. However, dependent upon the brand and model of the shotgun or handgun offered, I may have to check it out should the offer come my way.

Always good to see Americans exercise their 2nd Amendment rights..

13. My question is, what kind of cheap-assed gun are you going to get
that's only worth $50?

Will it blow up in your hand the first time you use it?

14. You'll need the gun if you ever try to quit Dish TV.
Three years ago I tried to quit Dish TV because I was getting a terrible picture and they refused to fix it. They also refused to let me quit. After several exchanges, I mailed them a registered letter saying I didn't want their service and I was refusing to continue paying for it. That was 3 years ago. This last Monday I got a call from a collection agency saying I owed Dish TV $49 and they were collecting. It's a scam and they can go screw themselves.
