1. it's funny that none of those 5 reasons have anything to deal with democracy
and if you take out the 'media culture' and propaganda aspect of those arguments, it becomes a straw hat

2. Just one link? Where's the link to a YouTube wrestling video?
Not according to a study done during the 2010 election, which concluded that people who watch television news are more likely to get the facts wrong than the people who just flip past it on the way to watch wrestling.

3. Since democracy is terrible, we need to work harder at being a constitutional republic.

4. Where can I find an Internet message board full of people who agree with me?
That's a serious question.

5. Very anti-intellectual... I especially liked #1
#5 Our Opinion on an Issue Is Based on How It's Worded

That has always been My dilemma! I have no idea how to word things in a way that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Or maybe I do but decide not to, which of course makes half of humanity want to destroy me. But then maybe it's because I use Me in my sentences too often.

Wow, Cracked.com, interesting site... "America's only Humor and Video Site, Since 1958."

6. The group polarization one's been especially obvious the last several years
Not just here (though it certainly is here), but pretty much everywhere that I've noticed. Gets kinda frightening at times.

7. I think it's pretty accurate.
Sad and embarrassing, but accurate.

8. It's also just a joke... There are serious ways Democracy can fail...
Well just do the math. The majority is not always right for everyone, which Democracy seems to assume. Anyone with an analytical mind can see that.

This article is a humorous take on a very real dilemma.

We could build a paradise for each other, but the problem is one person's paradise is not another's. Democracy does not necessarily facilitate.

But it can. I'm not saying it's doomed.

People (those who care) should talk about this matter in a serious way. Joking about it in the meantime at least draws attention to the issue.

10. I was talking to my partner last night and we came up with this plan
in which we figure out how to clone the Earth and all the structures upon it, then hand out a "clone" to every "group" that wants one. The fundie Christians can all have their Christian-only earth and sit around waiting for Jesus until the sun expands and eats them. Same with the other ultra-orthodox religious people that can't seem to tolerate the idea of sharing. The Jew AND the Muslims can BOTH have an entire Middle East all to themselves! American liberals can have an earth and American conservatives can have an earth; we can clean ours up, while they destroy theirs (and themselves in the process). Every religion, every political ideology, every cult, every group of any kind that wants to live together (but without all those "others") can do so!

But then we realized that the plan would fail in the end. Bereft of outsiders, heathens, traitors, and scoundrels on the "other side" to hate, we'd just create new ones INSIDE the group, and eventually, each human would have to have an entire earth just for themselves and their immediate family. At least until those kids grow up and have the audacity to do things their parents don't like. Then THEY get kicked out too.

*sigh*
