Slovenia has a nuke plant problem

Slovenia's only nuclear power plant that shut down automatically earlier this week due to what plant officials called a minor incident has failed to restart because of technical problems. Spokeswoman for the Nuclear Plant Krsko Ida Novak Jerele said Friday the system, which switched off Wednesday because of an electric power cut, could not be restored as planned on Thursday evening. There was no danger of radiation fallout during the stoppage or the attempted restart, Slovenian authorities said. Novak Jerele said in a statement that the plant, located 90 kilometers (55 miles) east of the Slovenian capital, is expected to be back on line next week. She said "synchronization" problems were detected while the plant was being restarted. "Deviations" were discovered on the plant's lubrication oil systems, the statement said without providing details. The plant, built by Westinghouse and owned jointly by Slovenia and Croatia, went into operation in 1983. It has one 2,000
megawatt reactor.
