Deputies Accused Of Leaving Child After Arrest
Deputies Accused Of Leaving Child After Arrest
Mother Arrested, Child Left On Side Of Road

BANDERA COUNTY, Texas -- Bandera County deputies have been accused of leaving a child in a car on the side of the road after they arrested the toddler's mother, and the mother's attorney said dash-cam video of the arrest proves it.

According to the police report, deputies pulled over 29-year-old Victoria Brice because her vehicle had a broken left brake light.

"I don't see any lights out. It looks like a completely illegal stop," attorney Adam Cortez said of the dash-cam video from his client's arrest.

Brice was then handcuffed and taken to jail for an expired driver's license.

3. Unfuckingbelievable!
"Bandera County officials said the deputies involved have received counseling on procedures involving children."

When I was a kid, my grandma used to say that some people "don't have the common sense God gave a goat."

20. Police are trained to track every person at the scene. It sounds intentional, for spite.
They are rogue, or else grossly incompetent and should be fired. I nhope someone sues the pajeezus out of these bums.

23. Your Grandma obviously wasn't talking about
these idiots... otherwise she wouldn't have insulted the goat. For their handlers to arrange counseling presupposes they have an I.Q. one click higher than a slab of dried pemmican.

14. So, the officers involved were given "counseling" on
Edited on Sat Mar-26-11 12:57 PM by liberalhistorian
the "proper procedures involving children?" WTF kind of "counseling" do they need to know that you don't leave young children in a car alone on the side of the highway? WTF is that except for good plain common-sense? WTF. If you're an officer who needs "counseling" on not leaving young toddlers alone in a car by the side of the highway after an arrest, then you're too fucking stupid to be a cop and ya got no business being one. Period. My stepbrothers are deputies, and they're the first to agree on that.

And WTF is up with being arrested and jailed for having an expired license? Last time I checked, that is NOT a jailable offense. The one time I was driving with an expired license (it'd been expired for a month, I was a new driver and I'd forgotten all about renewal, frankly), they simply confiscated my license and impounded the car (which made sense, since I shouldn't have been driving without a license in the first place and they obviously couldn't let me even drive home, since I technically didn't have a license). There was never any talk of arrest, let alone jail. Of course, I was a white, middle-class female and this was more than twenty years ago. Unless there's something the article isn't saying, such as she had other warrants or charges against her, this doesn't make sense.

15. Incidents like this are flabbergasting because there is no apparent motive -
Edited on Sat Mar-26-11 01:11 PM by hedgehog
This is a white woman who looks to be middle class. It wouldn't be right, but if she was a poor white, black or Latina, it would be understandable.

(Edit - understandable because some white cops are racist and/or classist)

WE had a similar case here in Upstate New York a while back:

Sheriff's deputy stopped a woman for cell phone use, then claimed he stopped her for speeding (50 in a 45 zone).

He ended up tasering her before arresting her and leaving the kids in the car.

17. Wonder if someone who knew her also knew one of the police involved.
Stops like that tend to before reasons other than "the law' if you know what I mean.
If some one wanted her harassed, there can alway be one or two public servants who might be willing to do the harassment for a buddy or friend of a friend.
They probably just weren't told she might have a kid with her, which was apparently the only thing that made the stop newsworthy.

22. I'm not impressed, rather depressed they got counseling when a child could have died.
Texas has strict laws against leaving a dog or a child in a car.

If she'd done it, she'd have been charged for it.

Sick, sadistic system giving these goons a handslap.
