Saturday afternoon rant
As we sit bitching and griping on DU, the Brits are fighting, the Egyptians are changing their government, Wisconsin is fighting like hell, etc. what will it take to get the fight on for all of us. I come to DU and Listen to Progressive radio once in a while and constantly hear all of the bad things the right are doing, the lies, the deceit, the evil. Over and over, I know they are bad and evil, I don't need to listen to how bad and how evil they are. I just want to know how are we going to put them out of existence. I scream at the radio when they point out how they have lied, thats all good, but what do we do. I'm afraid it will be too late, when we all hit the streets. Here in Jersey everyone bitches about Christie, in the grocery stores, salons, etc. but thats all they do, and he knows it, he doesn't care if they hate him, they're not stopping him. I don't understand they take it and just bitch about how they hate him, everyone seems so complacent to just let them do what they will, like they don't have a choice. My sister hates him and she is a repug. I don't get it.
We out number them. I forget who said it, but it was a republican, many years ago.
If the American people ever woke up we will all be in big trouble. They know how to work us, keep us rooting for a team, and they can control those teams, but if we left our teams and all got together as Americans, they would all be so scared. "You gotta keep them separated". Each day there are more and more issues that we have in common than not, we need to put them all together and really change things. Sorry I am just so frustrated and aggravated by everything right now.

1. I thought in 2008 it would all start changing, instead, IMO, it's just continuing. n/t

3. Sad but true
It's just a continuation, they are pretty much all bought. We have to get it back ourselves, no one is going to help us now.

9. I've been uptight since the 2000 election. I never thought I would feel like this
in 2011. It's all very discouraging. It's exactly as you say, "they are pretty much all bought." I think the average wage in this country is something like $38k/yr. For the most part, the majority of this county has no representation. Most of these guys answer to zillionaires, and with Citizens United, it's only going to get worse IMO. The 2012 election is going to be a billionaires picnic. Americans could change all of this, but too many seem clueless as to what is going on and/or willfully stupid.

2. Organize on facebook
twitter and use those sources. March on your capital. More will join.
But yes, many still are asleep, are too dumbed down or simply don't seem to care.

7. My moms generation
They still trust the TV and the government. It's amazing when I listen to them. They believe everything there told. But I do think, by all these Repugs pushing over the line, that a lot of people are seeing what they are really about, not fiscal responsibility, they are bought. I always joke with my mom and say she just excepts everything because when she was young they would sound a siren and they would all run under their desks, they were trained to just trust.

11. Spot on
People have been brainwashed all their lives by patriotic shit, and it's been all about the rich getting richer all along.

If it were not for the internet many of us free thinkers would still be way in the dark about a lot of things.

I see and read the lies. I don't watch FOX snooze and do not listen to any right wingers.

4. The talk should extend in real time, as well as DU...
Be visual, get articulate with your talk and become a real activist.

Then, get involved with a local progressive (gardening perhaps) project. Network.

Listen to "Spontaneous Evolution" ... Google it, and you'll see that this never happens in the timeframe you want it to, but these things are part of making "IT" happen.

We get the kind of government we deserve, so if you are not out there getting people to vote locally for the best school board members, or members of local government, you and your growing network of individuals start doing this now.

I'm exhausted in these efforts locally, but it beats screaming as the only source of your voice.

5. Yes, my car radio catches hell from me too. But you can get more...
...satisfaction in the Streets of America. Make a sign, take a walk around your State's Capitol, or the business district in your town.

Post something sane on your local paper's web site blog(s).

Call your Congress-critters. Tell the good ones (if any) that you're proud of them and you're working for them. Tell the bad ones what you think of them.

When some right-winger spews some of their talking points, just respond with "you fell for that?" and walk away. But don't let it go without a challenge, at least not in the presence of others.

In Wisconsin we're challenging our government, and hopefully taking the lead for others in Lansing, Columbus, Augusta and elsewhere.

8. Thanks, I know I'm not alone
Scuba, I just said that to my brother inlaw the other day, "You fall for that". I told him it's all propaganda against regular people. He did think about it. People are waking up, and I do feel better now that I ranted.

14. Bingo. Derision can be effective...
...if they say "prove it" I say "do your own research. Try the Google" or "Read the bill" (very effective here in Wisconsin).

I think it's most important to speak up when others are being influenced by the situation. The right-wing ranter at the supermarket, on the train, or at work MUST NOT GO UNCHALLENGED.

You don't have to refute his BS point-by-point, but folks need to hear that WE DISAGREE.

12. Thank goodness you think differently than my NJ red neck
brother, who IS Bubba.

He kept telling me that everyone in NJ hates Obama...I know he hates Obama because Obama is black. PERIOD.

My Bubba brother also says what is wrong with the rich keeping all their money. Bubba works a blue collar job. He is brain washed by the RW radio and TV. He thinks Hannity should run for president.

Bubba never was good in school. He detested school and I think he detests educated people. Obama speaks too many "Big" words for NJ Bubba

My brother's favorite word to degrade people is calling them nitwits. Well, we don't speak any more. Sad, as he was a support to me when my son and husband were dying. When he remarried he changed his name to Bubba and it seems his racist and intolerance grew.

I have been on DU for over a decade but don't write much. Glad to see someone from NJ who is not an ignorant RW nitwit.

I now am in Canada where most citizens really love Obama and wish we had one of our own.

I visited the south recently and a relative's husband actually told me he wouldn't feel bad if Obama was assassinated. I was shocked that he would come right out and say it to me, someone who he just met.

13. Yes, they're brainwashed. Or willfully ignorant. Only personal tragedy will make them...
...rethink their positions.
