Glenn Beck Radio Show Dropped From Connecticut Stations
Glenn Beck's radio show is set to be dropped from four small Connecticut stations, it was reported Thursday.

Buckley Radio, a chain which runs 17 stations around the country, told Radio Ink magazine and Media Matters that it will cease airing Beck's show, which airs on four of its five stations in the state, beginning April 4.

In an email to Media Matters, Grahame Winters, the chain's program director for Connecticut, said the move was solely due to the desire to add more local programming to the stations.

"Quite simply, we are making the change in our programming lineup because our listeners have expressed a desire for more locally originated programming featuring issues important to us here at home," Winters said. "This change will more closely align us with that goal."

This is at least the second batch of stations to drop Beck in the last few months. New York station WOR pulled his show in January, citing poor ratings. Even so, Beck remains the third-biggest radio talk show host in the country, and, according to a source, 88 stations picked up his show in the past year. He will also continue to air on a Buckley station in California.

2. Circling The Drain...
Kudos to Buckley for going against the flow and doing more live and local programming. I hope it's not a local flying monkey but an open dialogue as talk radio once was. (ah to dream).

The reason Dreck is on so many stations and will remain so is the desperate condition radio is in...especially AM radio. Many operations have been cheapened so that most are just satellite relay stations with the programming chosen on a national level. The remaining AM listeners are predominately white and male...middle age "Joe the plumbers" who've been whipped and beaten in real life and climb into hate radio as their way to "fight back". Pretty sad statement about this country and radio.

3. Though I'd like to believe Beck is toxic...
I bet a lot of the reason is to shift to local programming as stated. Beside the fact that Glenn Beck isn't exactly a revenue cow these days with all the boycotts, ratings set commercial prices in the market. I think small town AM radio operators have discovered people don't tune in to hear Beck. They listen because there's an AM radio in their car.

Listeners of AM talk are older people who dislike current music programming, hate the morning drive idiots, and are sick of carbon copy oldies formats. They'd tune in to the squealing static of AM radio to hear what their crackpot neighbor has to say about his cats if that's what's on during the work commute, at a fraction of the cost of a syndicated show.

Either way, that's fewer poisoned minds hypnotized by background conversation while MFing that Tahoe that jumped lanes.

5. Yehaw for what? 88-4 = 84. That means that Beck picked up
net stations. It appears as though his listenership is growing, not shrinking. I don't view that as good news.

7. I was a long time listener to talk radio and then came limpballs
That was the end. Talk radio was always local. the hosts were in a local studio and the callers were local. That all ended with these national syndicated hours of crap.
