What do you think about this excerpt from a book about procrastination?
Edited on Sun Mar-27-11 10:37 AM by LoZoccolo

When you chronically complain, you may not only alienate yourself from others but the friends you keep will likely manifest a similar attitude and encourage your and their neurosis. Your reciprocal sobbing about the unfairness of life leads to loss of much pleasure.

To rid yourself of chronic frustration-enhancing thoughts like "I can't stand this!" ask yourself, "Why can't I stand what I don't like?" A well-thought-through answer results in: "Sure, I can stand washing my automobile or studying for a test! I may never like them, but I can bear them!"

Similarly, you may ask, "What about the world indicates that it must treat me fairly?" Answer: "It has no reason for treating me other than as it does!"

You do not design questions like these to make you feel good about an unpleasant situation - but to undermine the irrational thinking that makes you foolishly procrastinate. And since, after giving up your demands for pleasure and fairness, you still want such things, you can wisely force or push yourself into activity that helps you avoid future discomfort and gain greater advantage. Where your wining promotes procrastination, your pushing stops it. So use your energy doing instead of stewing.

5. I was gonna give the funny obvious reply but others' beat me to it
--""the wags here"" :)

but seriously just before I read this post I was thinking how this morning - for some reason - I am able to overcome procrastination to do a bunch of things which are small but kept getting put off-
sweeping the beroom, finding some papers I need, filing....

and it feels good. so.

6. Good points. Especially, "So use your energy doing instead of stewing."

Thus, I'm going out for my walk as soon as it clears up a little more.

The article reminds me a little of some Cognitive Behavior Theory principles about having reasonable expectations.

Also, "Fish Philosophy": "Choose Your Attitude", "Play", and "Make Their Day"...

10. Ah, yes. 'You should do something about it'. Until you do. Then you shouldn't.
This is just more of the 'where else you gonna go'
DLC abusive crap.
