LIEberman: Let's do Syria next!
Lieberman Suggests No-Fly Zone an Option in Syria if Violence Escalates

Published March 27, 2011

AP

Sen. Joe Lieberman speaks Feb. 3 during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Sen. Joe Lieberman suggested Sunday he would support military intervention in Syria if its president resorts to the kind of violent tactics used by Libya's Muammar al-Qaddafi.

Dozens reportedly have been killed in protests against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government, raising questions about whether the international community would get involved.

Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told "Fox News Sunday" that if Assad starts slaughtering his own people, he will risk other countries imposing a no-fly zone "just as we're doing in Libya." He urged Assad to, instead, negotiate with the "freedom fighters" in his country.

"There's a precedent now that the world community has set in Libya, and it's the right one," Lieberman said.

3. President Obama is not motivated by the racial/religious grudges of Sen. Lieberman
and will avoid such patently insane responses.

No matter bad things get in Syria, aggressive action against the regime could easily make things worse, including for the people of Syria. Lieberman wouldn't mind that (he would probably have trouble concealing his glee at the widening carnage) but Obama would.

5. ugh. there are plenty of senators and house members
who hold exactly the same positions as Lieberman who aren't Jewish. Suggesting that his support for such a thing is because he's Jewish is as grotesque as the fuckwads on the right who suggest that Obama does certain things because he's black. Congrats on joining their ranks.

6. Joe Lieberman has established a long record of wishing war and destruction on the Arab world
His grudges against Arabs and Muslims shine out and stink like a mackerel in the moonlight. Whatever shield you try to hide his hatred behind, it will out. No one is fooled.

I am speaking of his personal record of urging bloodshed against Arabs and Muslims. You don't deny he could be motivated by a racial or religious animus do you?

In any matter regarding Arab/Muslim states, the traditional foes of Israel, Joe Lieberman always agitates for the most extreme and hostile response. I don't think many people on this board would disagree about that. He clearly has an axe. Obama does not have any such record. What Lieberman is calling for is an act which could well result in Israel going to war with Syria should Syria threaten to strike Israel as a deterrent to our acts of war.

In such an exchange, possibly retaliating against Syrian Chemical rocket attacks, Israel might unleash their own superior WMD arsenal, which includes atomic weapons. A "humanitarian" intervention as urged by Senator Lieberman, on behalf of the people of Syria, could then eventuate in mass killings of Israelis, and an ante-upping retaliatory slaughter of Syrians. "Humanitarian" goal for Syria achieved? Either Senator Lieberman has thought this through and wants to get it on, or he is so blinded by his hatred of Syria that he automatically calls for acts of war against them and doesn't stop to think through the consequences. Either way it's bad -stunningly stupid and bloodthirsty- but pretty typical of him.

10. Maybe we should ask Joe if we could do the same to the government of Israel
when they kill Palestinian protestors within their borders?

Might get a different answer from Holy Joe on that one.
