Had a brief, but interesting conversation with a republican today.
I was at Planet Comicon, a big comic convention in Kansas City.

One of the dealers had a booth full of toys and autographed pictures. Today it was all 1/2 price.

My friend pulled out an autographed picture of Rush, teasing me with it. Told him I'd hate to buy it just to burn it.

The dealer kinda laughed and said he couldn't get rid of it. Then he told me that he was a republican but that he didnt like Limbaugh at all.

Thought Rush was full of it. He said "Because I'm a republican, everyone assumes I listen to Rush."

Then I told him that that was kind of my assumption too.

I shook his hand and told him it was nice to meet a republican who didn't worship at the altar of Rush.

Then I made a comment about not having any autographed pics of Beck and he said "I've never watched his show."

I forgot to go back by his booth later and buy some cool Star Trek toys he had, but got the Rocketeer Deluxe Edition instead.

1. Good for you!
How refreshing it must have been to talk to an intelligent republican!

I didn't know they still existed...

:hi:

3. This was probably a swing voter. The type obama needs to win over if he expects to get re-elected

4. Yeah, BHO should go for those "swing" voters. That's the ticket....
Or perhaps the 50,000,000 citizens who don't bother to vote because neither party offers them anything.

6. There's more to the 'not voting' thing than that.
I would venture to guess that most of the hard-core non-voters in this country just can't be bothered.

And that is sad.

If everyone voted who didn't bother to, and I don't care if the votes were for Mickey Mouse, it would at least show that they weren't totally apathetic about having a voice in their government.

7. More likely a libertarian if he was at a comics convention
There are a lot of them out there in the SF/comics/video game boondocks.

and though they are misguided they're OK, they're fairly intelligent, nut fundies or not cases. Unfortunately like I said misguided but they probably feel the same about me, haha. We all agree to disagree and at family gatherings don't get into politics.

edit: typo
