Notorious Sacramento Serial Killer Dies
http://www.kcra.com/news/27338179/detail.html

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- One of Sacramento's most notorious serial killers -- Dorothea Puente -- has died, KCRA 3 has confirmed.

The California Department of Corrections said that Puente, 82, died of natural causes and at an on-site skilled nursing facility on Sunday.

Puente was serving two consecutive life sentences for killing three people in the 1980s that lived in her Sacramento home.

In September, KCRA first reported that Puente was being treated for an illness and was on her deathbed.

1. Oh my, I remember when that all happened...
...the things I remember most are:

1 - After a neighbor complained about the smell coming from some newly dug beds in her garden, that they told police she had dug, the police came and started digging and found bodies. As the first body was discovered, she was inside the boarding house (that she ran) and told the nice policeman inside that she needed to go get some groceries. Well, she was just a nice little old white-haired lady, what was he to do? He allowed her to go. They caught up with her a few months later, in Southern California (if I remember correctly), doing the same MO: talking to older men in bars who lived alone and had Social Security checks coming in. Well at least they got her before she killed again!

2 - Someone, don't remember who, made a funny song, same tune as the Beach Boys' "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena", only it was "The Little Old Lady From Sacramento" and they used "Demento" for the rhyme.

I hate to admit it, but even to this day I find the above aspects of the case amusing in a very dark kind of way.
