Loyal dog & friend were indeed rescued (Japan)
Edited on Sun Mar-27-11 08:22 PM by catgirl
There was a lot of concern whether the two dogs, now famous from the disaster in Japan, were rescued , or not. Well, they were.
Here's the Global Animal link with the update:

http://www.globalanimal.org/2011/03/19/update-loyal-tsunami-dogs-safe-at-veterinarians/32822/

I wish I had more information on ongoing rescues of stranded animals. I usually get regular updates. It's a concern to me that there
aren't ANY updates. I fear that there may be a blockade due to radiation fears.

2. JEARS is doing a very good job with updates on their Facebook page
Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support (JEARS) is doing an excellent job on the ground, and despite their busy schedules, have taken the time to tell their supporters about their activities, including posting photos and stories. I am really impressed by them. There are many animal rescue organizations there, and i've also been impressed at how they're all helping each other.

http://jears.org

JEARS is a fantastic group, i just love them! If you can afford it, please send them a few bucks. If you can't afford it, words of encouragement are always welcomed at their facebook page.

Regarding the two 'loyal' dogs, no one really knows what's going on. It's a messy story, and i have no idea who's telling the truth. All i know is that Kenn Sakurai has received updates about them and it's not good news. Both dogs are in critical condition, one had to have a leg amputated. You can judge for yourself ....

8. There has been no evidence that Sakurai rescued them

Or that he has any inside info. on them. I wouldn't go on the information that Sakurai is giving at this point.

3. Some updates from ARK (Animal Refuge Kansai) at this link.
http://petcaptain.com/blog/cat/update-pet-rescue-efforts-japan

Some things that stood out: Animals in shelters are dying from stress related problems like diarrhea.

For people, influenza is spreading. In the north people are dying of starvation. "One rice ball a day between two people." (10 days ago -- don't know how much has changed)

10. Unfortunately, the problem isn't usually stress related

The animals are usually extremely dehydrated. When rescuers give them lots of food and water, their bodies
can't handle it. The rule of thumb is to give a little bit at a time, so the body can slowly acclimate. The same
thing happened to the animal victims in New Orleans after Katrina. Many rescuers are volunteers and not
trained properly to deal with starving, dehydrated animals. Diarrhea was a problem that the vets had to deal
with, and the cases were usually severe (life threatening).

6. Read the post below that

This report is from a trusted organization that was trying to follow up on these reports fot two reasons.
1. To make sure they were rescued and are being cared for. 2. To make sure this guy wasn't scamming
people for their money.

Still. I wish there were photos to confirm it all.
