Patrick's Law - Petition for stronger animal cruelty laws
Hi all, if you haven't seen or heard about Patrick, the dog starved nearly to death then stuffed in a garbage bag and thrown down a garbage chute in NJ, well, you have now.

Believe it or not, he survived and his owner is facing charges for her criminal acts. Sadly, she is likely to get off with little more than a slap on the wrist due to our appallingly lax animal cruelty laws.

If you would like to add your voice to the thousands of others calling for more stringent laws to protect animals and prosecute those who abuse them, please consider signing your name to this petition: http://apps.facebook.com/petitions/1/patrick-starved-do...

4. Cruelty to animals is considered a warning sign for serial killers.
It's because animals are living, but don't share the same legal protections as human beings. So the way people treat animals tends to reflect how they would be willing to treat people if they had no pressure on them or fear of being caught.

8. Contact NJ State Reps here
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/selectrep.asp

Other states, contact your reps here:

http://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

Reference Patrick's case and the inadequate punishment the woman who abused him is likely to get. Ask for stricter laws, harsher punishments. Animal abuse is still only a misdemeanor in some states.

Contact the Essex Co. prosecutor's office and ask them to deliver the harshest punishment possible to Patrick's abuser once she's convicted:

Essex County: Prosecutor's Office
50 W Market St # 3

9. Sorry for the link screw up
(worked for me last night) - not sure why but it doesn't seem to have a direct link any more. As noted above, you can still go to the link and select the 'Animal Welfare' then 'Animal Abuse' links. You will find Patrick's cause at the top of the page (until they move it, too).

Thanks to all who added their voices.
