Florida: 92-year-old woman fires shots at man who wouldn't kiss her

OCALA, Fla. (AP) _ A 92-year-old Florida woman is jailed after police say she fired shots at a neighbor who refused to give in to her demands for a kiss.

Police say Helen Staudinger of Fort McCoy went next door Monday to visit her neighbor, 53-year-old Dwight Bettner, and grew angry when he wouldn't give her a kiss. She then allegedly fired four rounds into Bettner's house from a semiautomatic pistol, shattering a window. No one was hurt.

Bettner told police he had ongoing issues with his neighbor, who he said had grown enamored with him and threatened to shoot him when he told her he had a girlfriend.

Staudinger is charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a dwelling and is being held at the Marion County Jail. It's not known if she has an attorney.

whereby "official" government documents "prove" that no 92 year old probably suffering from dementia could possibly get hold of a gun and anyway if she had, he should have been aware that at any moment gunfire could be used even from a very elderly person. I mean,as her neighbor wasn't he aware of her mental condition? It was up to HIM to do something, right? Clearly, he wasn't paying attention...

I love the "helpless" defense. It's the last one after the first two, as we have observed: 1) 92 yr old women don't do this (according to our charts), 2) it's her neighbor's fault, he should have been carrying in case she "did" have a gun, but basically it's HIS fault for not protecting himself against his 92 yr. old neighbor. Now we have 3) nothing we can do about it anyway so we throw up our hands and say "too bad."
