Nor for that matter could anyone else in that income bracket.

Think about it, off the top of your head, how much does the IRS keep every year after deductions? The question assumes one does one's own taxes, and doesn't just focus on the return check. While I may be wrong, I doubt many know to the dollar how much that obligation is.

People just parrot what they decode through the squealing static of their AM radio from people who do know how much they pay and want a million dollar break.
