Is bad presidential field a GOP plot to help Romney?
Mike Huckabee, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Buddy Roehmer, Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum? Seriously? Am I the only one who thinks the GOP is parading the Stupid Train around the country to help Mitt Romney look good because he can spell, speak in complete sentences and is not a birther?

1. Nothing will help Romney.
And it's so cute that you think people rolling on inherited fortunes are actually smart.

2. nothing will help Romney with the GOP base because they hate those qualities you listed
Romney might fool swing voters in a general election, but it's hard to see him making it through the GOP primaries without rigged elections or re-inventing himself as one of the hillbillies in Deliverance.

3. spelling and speaking in complete sentences are not major selling points to Americans.
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 12:40 PM by Shagbark Hickory
Guns and making sure the president is a bona fide Christian and not some pretender are important.

edit: Golly my spelling is atrocious

6. The GOP put up and elected their darling boy, *
a man who can neither spell, nor speak in a complete sentence, nor eat a pretzel. They are not looking for intelligence. It is anathema to them.

7. GOP plot? No. But their owners have a plan.
They are running the loons because if one of them wins then they get exactly what they want and if they don't then the country will still shift to the right and they will still have the dem party who are also largely owned.

With mo spending limits in political races it's strictly a money game and they have all the money and thus all the politicians.

8. No, they just don't want to waste any of the "good" ones
on an incumbent. They'll wait till 16 to put out their hot prospects.

13. I agree. This is a year of disposable candidates.
No reason to sully the electability of a candidate with an actual shot at winning. They're currently grooming the crop for 2016 when they'll have a real shot at taking back the presidency.

9. Romney has already received the kiss of political death
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 01:11 PM by Gman
when Obama praised him in front of the GOP governors for his stance on health care reform. He will not make it out of the primaries. He's too articulate, educated and has too much of an understanding of the issues. That makes him unelectable in the primaries.

10. "Romneycare' will sink him with the base.
That and his magic underwear. He may be our perceived 'best' republican candidate...but that won't help him in the primaries. I fully expect to see that Youtube video of Romney debating Ted Kennedy for the Senate race in 1998(?) - he tried to run to Ted's left. That should get a lot of air play in the primaries.

12. Of course not
It's not the Republicans "turn" at the White House yet. The object will be to push Obama to the right as much as possible, and when he wins his allotted 2nd term he'll be a lame duck anyway.

With the exception of Carter, who most of the country turned on, and GHWB, who was really Reagan's 3rd term and ran virtually un-opposed to get there in the 1st place, who isn't allowed re-election.

It's almost like there is a "secret agreement" among the Republicrats, and we're just supposed to go along.

Bonus points, without using the Google, who did the Democrats run against GHWB? Sorta makes the point when you know the answer.

14. Nope, they've got the policies they want now ...
The election is merely a constitutional requirement, ie, dog n' pony show, for public consumption.
They've gotten everything they've wanted for the past 10 years - and continue to get it from this non-adversarial administration ... why bother putting up anything more than a pretend fight?

18. Romney not a birther? When it gets closer to the primaries, he will be a full-throated birther. He
will have to fit in the GOP mainstream and appeal to their base. They are going full bore with that birther crap with Huckabee and Gingrich singing the "Kenya" song already.
