Just called the White House to object to the treatment of Brad Manning. |

And I feel ggggrrrreeeaaaaat.
Progressive Democrats of America has (very)recently joined the fight for Private Manning and has furnished the following contact info and talking points:
>>TODAY Monday, March 28, 2011 9 am – 5 pm EDT 202.456.1111
Demand President Obama:
1. DROP the charge of ‘aiding the enemy’ 2. STOP the inhumane treatment of Pfc. Manning, which the CIA defines as “no-touch” torture 3. REFUSE to hold the trial of Bradley Manning in secret, unchecked by media and public oversight 4. START investigating the war crimes that have been revealed by the WikiLeaks documents. The United States people have a right to a thorough investigation of these matters.>>>
So.... let's get to it. He's not going to free himself, ya know.

1. I'd feel very badly if they gave Bradley Manning back his clothes, and he hung himself with them. nt |

2. Then the administration would be blamed for effectively enabling his suicidal tendencies. |

As well it should be. The Obama administration is committing torture right before our eyes. |
|
I never ever in a million years thought that voting for a Democratic president would result in watching his administration condone torture on an American citizen. From Bush I would expect that. Not from Obama. This inhumane treatment of prisoner Manning is a permanent stain on Obama and his administration.

3. And you have what evidence Manning is suicidal? |
|
Please do illuminate the rest of us because any thinking person that has followed this story knows that the suicide bit is nothing but a fabrication by the Army to use as a pretense for the mistreatment of Private Manning.

4. I'm just saying, if we gave him back his clothes, we'd probably find out, one way or the other. n/t |

9. Yeah? Just exactly WTF has changed? |
|
Gitmo? No.
Iraq?Barely better. Afghanistan? Worse. Pakistan? Worse. Libya? Worse. Everything else seems to be about the same state of affairs that Dimson would have put it in.
Yeah, things have changed alright. We have a Nobel Peace Prize Winner Bombing a country and calling it a humanitarian mission. George Orwell didn't have that much chutzpah.

12. The brig psychiatrist |
|
classified him as a low risk of suicide. There's no doubt his treatment is retaliation for what he's accused of doing. Considering he's gay as well as military, his superiors are probably overconfident they can get away with it. In a right-leaning country, who cares if a gay boy gets treated harsher than his straight counterparts? It's all part of the fun as well as revenge. This is the sort of thing we need to be protecting against, not shrugging off with excuses or indifference.
