5. Radio exec: Our stations dropped Beck because he stopped being entertaining+*
EXCLUSIVE: Radio Chain Dropping Beck Because His Rants Hurt Ratings
A radio chain that dropped Glenn Beck from five of its stations since January did so, in part, because the show's content was hurting ratings, the company's president said Monday.

"He bounces around pretty radically, I think he confuses people, they're not sure where he is coming from," said Rick Buckley, president of Buckley Radio of Greenwich, Conn., who spoke with Media Matters. "It can change day to day, hour to hour. Consistency is, I think, the path to success in broadcasting, in radio for sure, whether it be music or talk. Glenn is sort of all over the park from time to time."

Buckley spoke just days after his company announced it would pull Beck's show from four stations in Connecticut. -- WDRC-AM, WWCO-AM, WSNG-AM, and WMMW-AM. Those stations simulcast programming and will no longer air Beck's morning show, replacing it with two local personalities.

"Some of his direction has changed over the last year and a half," Buckley said. "He is preaching a lot more than entertaining."

He's consistently manic, weepy, blubbering, paranoid and pathetic. No problem!

is not consistent enough! You just have to wonder about these people. I am glad they fired him. Maybe this will push him off the cliff. He is not all that stable and I have just been waiting for him to have a breakdown or hit the bottle again. Hopefully this will do it.

and entertaining, but not if you're consistently offensive, not if you want to keep your sponsors. He has enough money now. He can afford to retire, but doubt he'll go gracefully.

Oh god, I had a horrible thought. Once TV and radio doesn't want him anymore, he may decide to run for office.

Or when stations like Air America get taken off the air. When wingnuts get axed, it's because the sinister forces of the United Nations, and the blacks, and the Muslims, and George Soros, and Al Gore, and ACORN, and Planned Parenthood, and the manufacturers of energy-efficient light bulbs and electric cars, and anyone else I may have forgotten, have all conspired to stifle the voice of Real America (© The GOP - Party of Personal Responsibility).

11. I addressed this a few days ago in another post. 88-4 =84. That means a net gain for Beck.
How is this *good* news? It generally pays to read the *entire* story before commenting.

This is at least the second batch of stations to drop Beck in the last few months. New York station WOR pulled his show in January, citing poor ratings. Even so, Beck remains the third-biggest radio talk show host in the country, and, according to a source, 88 stations picked up his show in the past year. He will also continue to air on a Buckley station in California.

34. It's not the number of stations but the size of the listening audience
10 stations spread out over Wyoming will have far fewer listeners than 1 in a metropolitan area so it doesn't necessarily mean a 'net gain' for Beck. Now, I don't know where the 88 stations are but the conclusion you draw isn't necessarily so. Could be. Might not be.

tiny CT are going to have some huge impact on the 84 he picked up. Remember what the OP said "Glenn Beck just got kicked off a whoooooole bunch more radios" My point remains. I don't think this is something to do cartwheels about. It's actually kind of depressing to know that he is still picking up stations.

have indicated. Feel free to put a happy face on it, but I won't. Until a lot of *major* stations drop him and he doesn't pick up anything appreciable in return, then I won't be celebrating.

15. These are some more stations who have dropped him:
In addition to Beck’s New York City station and four Connecticut stations, Beck’s radio show was also dropped in Philadelphia and Madison, WI. Madison’s WTDY explained that they dropped Beck in part because “he lack of actual content becomes more apparent daily.” Glenn Beck also lost his coveted morning slot on Kansas City’s KMBZ. (from: http://stopbeck.com/2011/03/28/radio-chain-dropping-glenn-beck-from-five-stations-because-his-rants-hurt-ratings/

plus 81 companies have stopped advertising with him... also good.

a particular area, it doesn't mean that glen beck is going anywhere or is somehow going to suffer, become less powerful or earn less money. All it means is some people in these areas will not be able to listen and judge for themselves.

In my media market, there are no liberal or progressive shows. If the wind is blowing just right I might be able to get a station out of south carolina. I would prefer if they would air those shows here obviously but for money reasons they don't. So now there's no balance. I only hear one side of the story. Yes Glen Beck is a douchebag but airwaves controlled by profit or political ideology of the owner of the station is a sad state of affairs.

The advertising on his show has already slipped below even the Billy Mays level. About the only sponsors he has now (other than Goldline and Rosland Capital) are hucksters selling "survival" gear, and commemorative coins.

Despite the fact that he has one of the oldest and surely most ERECTILE DISFUNCTIONAL audiences on TV, even Pfizer is staying clear of his show.

Fox wants to cut his pay because of his declining ratings, and the radio stations are dropping him for the same reason.

His 'threat' to go to a third rate cable network is pretty empty. It's just a negotiating stance, IMO.

41. I'm pleased to hear this.
I consider Beck to be an unreclaimed madman.
He should live the life most severely mentally disabled people are compelled to live.
He should be unemployed and unemployable.
He should be living hand to mouth.
He should have only a small SSDI or SSI payment to sustain him.
And he SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN THAT!

I am disabled.
I live in this manner.
And frankly, I doubt that I'll ever be trusted or employed. Ever.
I don't like it when a man who is clearly disabled refuses to recognize his own limitations, and then calls himself some kind of prophet.

43. similar can happen to beck, limbaugh, and hannity in many blue states if americans
stop giving them a free speech free ride.

the talk radio monopoly is the single most dominating cause of why america has had 20 years of regression and the ONLY reason it has been such an effective weapon for the RW think tanks that feed it is that the 'left' collectively ignores it.

there is no organized challenge to the RW radio monopoly and the limbaughs get to hide behind call screeners and take free pot shots at our reps all day long.

all stations that pump these racists and haters and liars into their communities need to be shamed for the part they have played and their local sponsors need to be asked WTF? until the only ones left are the ones that defend the racism and lies.

the universities that broadcast sports on those stations need to be challenged by their students and faculties and communities to find alternatives.

those stations need to be recognized the political power centers they are and they need to be picketed when they attack and swiftboat progressive reps.

Just as Fox News was free when it initially launched, now providers pay for it. I doubt they barter the show anymore. He gets paid by Clear Channel who in turn make their money via his sponsor advertisers and local stations, who make their money on local ads during the show... which are both priced based on his ratings. Same model as network TV. Im not sure why it's a mystery. I think all you have to do is listen to his show and see who is advertising... although I wouldn't suggest listening to his show.

i believe the show is still given away for free in cases, to keep spreading it.

the 'market forces' argument by the right in defense of the right wing radio 'popularity' is a joke.

he gets big numbers because RW radio is the only show in town in most parts of the US and the right actively works to keep progressive radio off. they nailed down the biggest stations and many more tie into a national GOP/right wing think tank propaganda operation. on the local level many of the big limbaugh stations are well connected to and coordinated with the local and national GOP operations.

52. Three of them are small local stations with relatively low power
WDRC in Hartford is the powerhouse of the bunch, at 5000 watts.

55. Heh. I'm surprised it wasn't 40
There are 1200 or so hate radio stations in the US, which averages out to 24 per state. Factoring in the population, a state like CT might be expected to have at least average "representation".

57. When I read up to the word, "kicked" I was hoping....
that the following portion of the sentence went more like, "right in the testicles... repeatedly... by angry Americans.

However, this is also good news. He isn't entertaining. Even for myself, someone who loved to watch him for a few minutes just for a few laughs, he has simply stopped entertaining me.

Now, he's just a crazy ass bastard. Before, he was a crazy ass bastard who would make you laugh once or twice.

64. Lately he's gotten to the point that I ALMOST hate to hear that.
He was becoming such a clown that he didn't have much influence on anyone reasonable. Now he can be replaced by someone effective.
He was big enough that it's great he's being taken down. Whatever replaces him will be awhile building followers if it is successful.

Thats what happens when you cross Fox. This has nothing to do with market or advertisers. It has to do with Beck thinking he is king and the real corporate power behind the "conservatives" having other opinions.
