Angry bear mauls Swedish boy who disturbed its sleep
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 04:16 PM by Lars77
Source: news.com.au

A 12-year-old Swedish boy was recovering in hospital today after being mauled by a bear which flew into a rage when the young skier disturbed its winter sleep.

The boy, who was out enjoying the snow with four friends on Friday, apparently skied over the brown bear's hibernation den in Funasdalsberget, northern Sweden, news website The Local reported.

The animal, furious at being woken, dragged the youngster into its lair, bit him on both legs and clawed his back, then fled.

The brave boy struggled out and was rushed to a hospital, where he was "feeling OK considering the circumstances" according to medics cited by The Local.

9. Don't poke a sleeping bear with a stick? Good advice.
Double that for fire ant nests.

5. Well, he didn't do it on purpose so he has my sympathies and well wishes.
A frightening experience for both of them and, I'm assuming, fatal for the bear?

6. we also have murderous Swedish Moose (we call them elk, you call them moose)
http://welcometosweden.blogspot.com/2009/11/murderous-swedish-moose.html

"Over two years ago I wrote a post titled Beware the Swedish Elk. A Swedish Elk, or a moose to Americans, was wounded by a hunter. Not dead, the hunter approached the moose and somehow the moose managed to fire off a shot with the hunter’s rifle. It missed and the moose died. I wrote then that:

“In the fight for equality, seldom is the first fight the deciding fight, or the last for that matter. I expect Swedish Elk attacks to rise this hunting season, and as time goes on lives will be lost, Swedish Elk will be revered as heroes and martyrs within the forests of Sweden and no hunter will be safe. And so, to all of you who plan on shooting an elk, I can only say one thing: Beware the Swedish Elk.”

Two years later, my predictions are proving to be right. Feel free to refer to me as Hairy Nostraswedus. News reports are coming out that a murder case from September of 2008 is about to have a break through. A 63 year old woman was found dead near a lake. The husband was immediately arrested and spent 10 days in prison as well as being suspected for over five months.

Today though, it turns out his wife was murdered by a moose. Murdered. By a moose. The woman was attacked and killed by a moose. At least, the moose saliva and hair found on the body would suggest that. The Swedish police will hold a press conference on Tuesday to confirm the rumors. And their own incompetence of course. Because who are we kidding, regardless of the circumstances, to figure out one year later that a woman suspected to have been murdered by her husband was actually killed by a moose... that’s just embarrassing for Sweden’s finest......................................"

If it was not for that it was true, it would be a hillarious "svenskevits"::rofl: A tragical one, but a hillarious svenskevits by all means...

For you who do not understand "svenskevits", its an intern scandinavian joke tradition, where the opposite parties, often sweden and norway have a "you are dumber than me" contest.. Its far more peacefullt han say making a war now and then.. And its also verry fun;)

14. After reading your story, the gaze of that Swedish elk
turned from a simple animal stare to "don't fuck with me". That is one powerful animal! Sad to see that they have taken to a life of murderous revenge, though it's easy to understand why. It's just that such a turn often leads to drug use and alcoholism. Let's just hope they don't start forming the moose mafia or there could be hell to pay for the hunters in the woods.

7. I hope they don't decide to destory the bear...
The story sounds weird to me. Seems like it would take more than merely skiing over a den to annoy a hibernating bear into attacking.

8. I just heard an interview with the boy on the radio (BBC)
He sounded surprisingly OK for someone who'd gone through such an ordeal.

but I'm glad this boy is OK.
