Who ever would have thought major GOP leaders would come out on the side of Moammar Gadhafi? |
|
If things were reversed, that's what THEY would be saying about US.
Back in 2003, they accused Iraq war critics of being traitors and said things like "once we have troops in the field, you have to show support no matter what." They said Iraq war critics were Saddam sympathizers. They said opposition to that war was "aid and comfort to the enemy."
Well, where is all that "support the troops wherever they go" talk now?

They aren't with "us", they are with the terrorists.
We love invading oil rich countries in order to "defend" their people.
Maybe we shoudl call oursevles Republicans, and they can call themselves Democrats just to have more fun.
On edit - has anyone seen my "War Is The Answer" sign?

I am using REPUBLICAN logic here. Opposition to the Iraq war did not imply that somebody had a serious crush on dreamy Saddam Hussein, either. But that is basically how it was spun.

Hell ... that pretty much sums up the hodge-podge of hate-constituencies that make up today's GOP.

7. It probably sums up the hodge-podge of rebels, too |
|
If the rebels can overthrow Qaddafi's government, then they will no longer have the unifying target strong-man.
I'd bet the rebel forces break in to inter-tribal, inter-sect skirmishes, each trying to grab the seat of power, to be the next strong-man.
Unless we do some boots-on-the-ground (and open wallet on the ground) nation building, like Iraq.
Right now, we're only seeing one enemy in Libya.

Any rebellion/revolution is comprised of mutually antithetical interests in a (temporary) alliance. The proof of the pudding ins in how it shakes out once the Enemy (existing poser) is defeated/dethroned. The Russian Revolution became the Bolshevik Revolution ... and we eventually saw Leninism prevail after a period of republicanism (in the good sense). The American Revolution didn't yield the Consitution. That took more than a decade more.
It's a messy thing, revolution.
