Syrian government resigns
DAMASCUS, Mar. 29, 2011 (Reuters) — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad accepted the resignation of the government on Tuesday, Syrian state television said.

"President Assad accepts the government's resignation," an announcement on state television said.

Assad was expected to address the nation later on Tuesday or Wednesday in a speech which may include a decision to abolish emergency laws, after two weeks of democracy protests gripped the country.

2. Wait; did we bomb Syria?
How did that happen?

Until the president leaves, though, I don't expect much to change in Syria, but every sign of weakness is an encouragement to the forces of democracy. Let's hope they're organized and ready, otherwise, Syrians will just be swapping one dictator for whoever's ruthless enough to seize power in the aftermath.

3. And were 8,000 Syrians killed?
Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 08:12 AM by originalpckelly
That's more than the deaths of Americans in Iraq or Afghanistan. That's way more than the number of people killed on 9/11.

What if someone killed 8,000 Americans, how would you feel about that?

6. That doesn't mean we don't help other people too.
I agree with people who push for universal healthcare, real universal healthcare, but that doesn't mean we can't use the military of this nation to do something good for a change.

7. The die is cast
This just seems like weakness. once you get a concession like this there is no reason not to keep pushing.

So, the question is whether or not the religious nutters take over. What will Hizbullah do? Iran?

Things are changing.
